State of the art!

I think that l would need two people to chuck that one threw a window!

Poor kid, he can play around with a dinosaur, instead of pressing an Ipad with nice graphics.

I had a second hand typewriter like that, weighted a ton, and could be heard for miles when typing.

Thankfully some of the keys didn't work, so it was history, before long.

But in 1966, the Italians invented the worlds first Desktop, PC, this is more of a spinoff, but similar.

This is NOT advertised as, and is NOT, a computer. It is a computer TERMINAL! And this was NOT the first home computer terminal. NOT BY A LONG SHOT!!!!!!!! My FATHER had SEVERAL at his home!
He was a programmer for IBM and started a company using DEC.

So this video is a SCAM by EITHER measure! As for the italians having the first desktop PC in 1966? HIGHLY DOUBTFUL! INTEL is on record as creating the first microprocessor unit, and that was in the 70s.

It IS ironic that the terminals were never deemed usable or useful enough to really take off in the way the video said and within 6 years people just started using computers, which got rid of the need for such facilitation. It was then about 2 DECADES MORE, before people, once again, saw the need for such things.

Ok, well l did watch a show about this, and they were adament that this company invented the worlds first, Home desktop PC!

IBM was the market leader before 66, but only for room sized ones.

The incredible story of the first PC, from 1965

But they did say, considered the first one, so l will give you the allowance, that other versions may have been attempted.

This also used computer cards, or rectangular floppy disks, with programs on it, but without a computer screen, mathematics was it's main function.

Some can dispute this as not being a genuine example of a PC, as it seems to be a glorified calculator, but most of the systems of a PC are there, so l tend to go with the Italians!

IBM had room sized computers, and laser printers, but NOT terminals. That terminal I showed was basically sitting atop a small table. Truth be told, in 1966, IBM didn't even REALLY have many room sized ANYTHINGS!!!!!!!! The computer units started at a size a bit smaller than a refrigerator! Tape drives were in small units that were about as tall as a person, a few feet wide, and about as deep. MOST size was DEAD AIR space! Look at the picture on the upper right of this page: 9 track tape - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia That is NOT a tape drive! It is THREE tape drives! This says that was released in 1964. The 1960s were perhaps the first decade for computers to really take off. You COULD say that 1960 was the decade of big business use, 1970 was the decade of computer hobbyists, and 1980 was the decade of the general consumer.

IBM, for a while, had a LOCK on computer cards. Floppy disks were, according to wikipedia, developed in the late 1960s by IBM. MOST terminals, even into 1980, apparently used paper tape. And it could NOT do math! MATH requires logic, and WHY would they spend SO MUCH to add a calculator onto a terminal? It was a TERMINAL! It was PRECISELY as much a computer as YOUR computer is now the warrior forum! TERMINAL means END, and refers to many things. They said COMPUTER terminal ONLY to state that this was the end of that computers connection, The function of a computer terminal is basically like your computer using an internet browser. It has NO processing, or graphics, but accepts input, sends it to a remote computer, and displays results. Computer terminal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In fact, MOST have NO way of saving information.

As for a PC? I could say a lot of things about that, but it is interesting that nothing seemed to come of it.

I had always figured the MITS Altair 8800 was the first true home desktop. But, there are a lot of "firsts" depending upon how you look at it. The Altair really started the whole home computer movement in the mid 70's. IBM didn't even get into the market until the early 80's. Most of the early home computers were kits that had to be assembled by the buyer.

Altair may have been the first widely adopted PC. It wasn't a terminal. If I had enough money, I would have wanted one. But the Apple and others came soon afterwards, and eclipsed it.
