The students developed the prosthetic arm with no funding and Alex Pring, 6, was the first recipient of the arm. Pring and his mother told WFTV the arm, which was designed and created using a 3-D printer, is life changing for them.

Yep, great to see, someone offering a reasonable alternative to greedy corporations!

No doubt they could do the same with Cancer drugs!

Well, not taking into account some a******s flouting red tape, throwing you in prison and confiscating your stuff.

The sociopaths are devious, but they can't plug all the holes!

  • Amazing how far we have come. Humankind is making such progress yet it ignores a big portion of our planet where we could use technology to solve so many of our problems.

That IS something, I wonder how they actuate the fingers. But if it costs $350 for that, they would have to charge maybe close to $1000 for a more realistic one, JUST TO BREAK EVEN! And since it is a one off deal that must be fitted, costs skyrocket, and profits dwindle. I could see it EASILY costing another $1000 for the fitting and adjustment. And the elbow would add still MORE cost. Though I think $40,000 sounds outlandish too, this video IS an oversimplification from a practical and business sense. HECK, I have complained here about my aortic stem that cost $20,000. And IT is ****FAR**** simpler then that arm, though the FDA and sterility requirements may have played a bigger part on the price.

BTW if the arm is fitted wrong, it may fall off, be less stable, or simply irritate the remaining part of the arm. Any of those things can be pretty bad.
