Anchorman - Ron Burgundy. Epic Fail

Just sat through that piece of crap which sucked so badly that I had to apologize to my brain by watching 4 straight hours of Cosmos to regain my intellectual equilibrium.

People talked about this movie like it was the second-coming of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." If that's what passes for comedy nowadays, I just don't know what to say. I'm glad I didn't pay money for that 'experience.'

Cheers. - Frank

Wait until movies come out on DVD and then just rent it. You can always just turn it off if it is lousy and you won't be out anything like what you pay at a theater. You can also choose to go do something else for the afternoon or evening.

HEY! Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World., the original and the remake, and even one reboot I saw, were all nice. That anchorman series is just GARBAGE! Frankly,I don't like much that will farrell is in. I don't know if I liked ANYTHING he was in.

Some people just don't know the difference between comedy and just STUPIDITY anymore. Most comedies DO have a token idiot. Some have LOTS of them. The anchorman series is one where it just seems to be a bunch of idiots.

Well, I can only speak to the original which to my way of thinking was comedic genius, even though it had its rough spots. I groan ahead of time for the 'kicking the bucket' bit. That was funny the first time. The movie ranks right up there with two of my other favorites, 'What Did You Do in the War, Daddy' and 'The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming.'

I did enjoy the iceskating movie he did. I think it was called, 'Blades of Glory.' That was pretty funny. I think the problem here is that he wrote the script himself. When folks reach his stature even your best friend won't tell you when you suck - lest you not get a role in the movie.
Some people just don't know the difference between comedy and just STUPIDITY anymore.
I'm a big fan of stupid and long as it's 'funny' stupid.
Most comedies DO have a token idiot. Some have LOTS of them.
Although I hated the movie, Steve Carell was 'pee your pants' funny. He was the only thing worth watching and he didn't have near enough lines.

While I have not seen them, that's why I have avoided 'The Hangover' franchise. I don't find the premise funny, but I haven't had a hangover in 35 years and never found anything funny about having one when I did.

Frank, we actually agree on something. I never watched the movie. The ads alone were enough to kill it for me.

lol. I really wanted to like that movie. I recorded it a couple of weeks ago and saved it for that rare instance when nothing else in the DVR struck my fancy. Perhaps that's why I was so disappointed. The one good thing that came out of it is actually did watch 4 hours of Cosmos so as to not feel so defiled.

Joe, I pretty sure that we probably agree on a good deal more than you might think. Perhaps not in our political leanings, but there is so much more to life thank just that. Besides, I'm learning to accept the fact that I can't do much to help folks see the light and simply agree with my brilliant observations 100% of the time - if at all. Yet - I give and I give and I give.

A movie along those lines that I was surprised how much I liked was Bruce Almighty. (There's a sentence in there somewhere.)

I'm not a big Jim Carrey fan but I thought he did well here.

Morgan Freeman did a good job as God. And God was treated respectfully, I thought.

A good story well done. Again, my opinion.

Kind-of makes me want to see it again.

For the record, I saw BRUCE almighty, and EVAN almighty. The later I even saw again TODAY! THEY were BOTH good! Bruce was allowed to act as God, and Evan was forced to act as Noah. Morgan Freeman, of course, played God in both.

I loved Anchorman. My wife hated it. I laughed so hard, my wife started to get embarrassed.

Watching a pompous ass, who takes themselves seriously..is about the funniest thing I can see. Will Farrell plays that character better than anyone I know, with the possible exception of Peter Sellers.

It isn't that Will Farrell (I mean the character) says such witty things. It's that he's soooo serious about himself. It's just all so absurd.

For some reason, only Farrell and Carell made me laugh. It's the same kind of straight faced absurdity that Fred Willard is so good at.

I like him a lot. I always admired the way that he gave 101%, every skit on SNL. The only person who topped him was Cheri Oteri, who gave 110%. She was an animal in those cheerleader skits.

I guess that just ain't my cup of tea. Perhaps it hits too close to home. lol

Best line in the movie - as he headed back to his offices sporting a giant woody and yells out, "Don't act like your not impressed." Priceless.
Big Frank; I'm glad you watched Cosmos.
As am I. I do hate being reminded of how incredibly stupid I am, though. I remember just a few years ago being really pissed at myself for not being able to understand how Einstein could think of the things that he would ponder. Not the pondering, mind you - just the choices of what to think about. I have to try and remember each night which hand I'm supposed to use to get food from the plate to my mouth. Not a good sign.

I've never seen anything created by Will Farrell that wasn't complete garbage. I guess most of the younger generation don't kno what real comedy is, with the exception of a few comedians.

Finally, someone who appreciates an intuitive comedy. 72% from Rotten Tomatoes and still one of my favorite movies of all time.

Other comedians I like: Gene Wilder, Sacha Baron Cohen, Steve Martin, Jim Carrey, Rowan Atkinson, Jason Segel, Louis C.K. , Lonely Island, etc.

I stand by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay on this one. He does great on SNL, and naysayers just hate his guts for making comedy gold. Try watching anything from Adam Sandler and his ragtag gang of so-called comedians to see the difference.

There is not a larger 'non-talent' on the planet than Adam Sandler. He should be banned from polite society if not arrested for impersonating an actor. He makes David Spade look like Laurence Olivier!

I like a lot of Adam Sandler's movies. I thought Happy Gilmore, Mr. Deeds and 50 First Dates were all great, but that's about it.

Farrell stinks. Also, he's a USC Trojan fan. That's a BIG reason not to like the guy already! Go Ducks!

I personally loved the Ron Burgundy character. But I have been disappointed at the sequel. I waited for years for an awesome movie and all I got was recycled jokes. Redeeming factor: the cameos at the end. A spoof too late. Just saying that the comedy genre is getting saturated.

What I suggest is watching Simon Pegg-Edgar Wright movies (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, etc.) You'll thank me later for that.

Yeah i just watched the clip from pink panther. It was funny but not rolling in the floor funny by any means

If I am not mistaken the Actor in there won an Oscar for the Movie about a jewish concentration camp years ago. Excellent movie.

But in this Setting, Peter Sellers he is not.

Yeah, I never thought Sandler was funny but Ferrell just gets me rolling for some reason.

I saw him in incognito at a Lakers game as a security guard on the Court. He played straight face and fit the role beautifully as the crowd didn't know what to think .

        Just plain comic brilliance imo.

On the other hand, Sandler and his annoying high pitched animated voice he does is just soooo stupid and annoying.

That song he did years ago about Hanukkah in front of a live audience is so dumb and NOT funny.

Steve; If it was so bad, why did it win an Oscar for Best Comedy? With Will Ferrell winning Best Actor? Answer me that!

And Ferrell won "Best nude scene" at the Golden Globes, for The Other Guys!

Funny, people just have different taste in humor. Step Brothers was sooo stupid/funny I couldn't stop laughing. When they both went in for that job interview with Seth Rogen I about lost it.

And the touching of the drum set with his wanger. Good gracious. Too much

Like I said just stupid/funny. Probably we are a minority....maybe around 5% of us just eat this " stupid humor" up

I like BOTH of those guys, will smith AND kevin james. Ever see paul blart mall cop? The PERFECT Kevin James movie! It was filmed at the mall across from where I lived for a while. I ALMOST tried to become an extra. I should have. 8(. Anyway, it was a BEAUTIFUL movie! A GREAT comedy. I don't even think it really had an average token idiot. It also had lots of great messages, a good plot, and I think EVERYONE in it did well.

Basically it was about a single father, Kevin James, that wanted to be a policeman but was rejected. One reason was likely because his metabolism was highly unreliable because he was a diabetic. He decided to become a mall cop, and ACT like a police officer. You can imagine how THAT might have gone, but it is like 3 times as funny and good as you might imagine it.

They have the average plot where it STARTS, like you expect, has a bend, and then shoots off in another direction. And THAT happens a few times.

It's been on my list after I saw the two movies I posted and Zoo Keeper. I'll bump it up and try to get to it after hubby and I get back from our 4 day weekend getaway to Grand Haven for our 31 year anniversary. (Actual day, August 6th - right smack dab in the middle of the week.)

You should have tried out for an extra. Just being on set for the filming of a movie is awesome!

Oh, and I love Will Smith too!

Someone must have been a joker! After the filming, they left some of the signage up! I wonder what they would have done if they hadn't gotten that mall for the movie. The amazon restaurant in the film, for example, was actually a real restaurant in that mall.

Anyway, as I recall, it is clean, something you could take the whole family to see. And it is almost like a who done it suspense, action coupled with comedy.

Kevin James is funny. Paul Blart was another good stupid/funny movie I liked.

Honestly, cannot stand Will Smith. For me, the most overrated actor, comedian, musician etc..ever
He ranks right up there with J-Lo as 'no talents'. Sorry !

I guess I can see that. The stuff he was in, for the most part, carried him, at least that I saw. The fresh prince is basically his real life, with a comedic family thrown in. AGAIN, you have the token idiot(the older sister that cares only about her looks and fashion), another idiot(the stereotypical weirdo brother with a weird set of preferences), a butler that doesn't really like the situation, and some parents that seem to be decent and care(USUALLY today, you have parents that DON'T care, the wife thinks the husband is a DOLT, and is often RIGHT, though sometimes SHE is as well). The idiot friend, IIRC, is actually his friend in real life, and not as dumb as he is portrayed. But Will basically plays HIMSELF. In many other movies, etc..., he has a good part, and just plays it as expected.

Another one here that can't figure out how Adam Sandler got into comedy. He has to have a relative somewhere with some pull. Will Farrell - off and on. None of the SNL has lived up to that first cast imho.

Well, there is a LOT of nepitism in hollywood! Luckily MOST I know about actually ended up having no ill effects, but SOME people? YIKES!

Of course it is hard to tell who is related to who sometimes.

Here's a line from the Other Guys, where Will Ferrell made it sound like Liam Neeson from Taken:

    Tuna vs. Lion

"We will construct a series of breathing apparatus with kelp. We will be able to trap certain amounts of oxygen. Its not going to be days at a time, an hour, hour 45. No problem. That will give us enough time to figure out where you live, go back to the sea, get more oxygen and then stalk you. You just lost at your own game. You are out gunned and outmanned."

I believe Will Ferrell and Steve Carell's brand of comedy is to be emulated. When we try to take ourselves seriously and forget the little things that make us laugh, which then turns us into comedy snobs.

I would like to emphasize some scenes in Will Ferrell's movies such as Elf (Buddy The Elf, what's your favorite color?), in Old School (We're streaking! We're streaking!) and in Stepbrothers (Rape! Rape! Rape!)

All this silliness that a person tries to find unfunny is beyond me. It's a natural tendency to take this situation as funny and when he keeps a straight face when doing his thing is really incredible.

Steve Carell in The Office and Dinner for Schmucks goes by the same winning formula. An idiotic manchild tapping the norms that you are better than them coz you are smart and and very much "unstupid". Yet they are smarter than you coz they almost always get the last laugh.

This is more of wit and straight to the face acting. And yes, I would give some credit to Adam McKay and the writers who collaborate with this schtick.

I could not agree with you more. I guess it does have to do with people's taste in humor.

Honestly though , I cannot see how anyone could truly dissect Tim Conway's improv doing the Dentist skit on Carol Burnett show (with Harvey Kormann) , and say that is just naturally 'unfunny'.

But believe me there are folks who do.

My measuring stick for sequels is now 22 Jumpstreet and the Hangover 2. It's awesome if it's the former, horrible if the latter. I'd probably put Anchorman 2 somewhere in the middle.

Sometimes the guy can be really funny and sometimes he can be really corny. With him and me his jokes etc. are only funny like 25% of the time.

My kid and I had fun watching Elf his Xmas themed story and the one in which he was a race car driver was a hoot but that's about it.

His good skits on SNL were few and far between. He often seems like he's trying too hard.

    But...

He did a real bang up job as #43 much to my surprise but...

In my final analysis I would not deliberately pay to see one of his movies much like you.

    Cheers!
