Yahoo announced it is terminating the Yahoo Contributor Network where you got paid for writing content.

If you still want to write and share your content Yahoo says you can use Tumblr. No, you will not be paid.

If you have articles on YCN they will be deleted 8/14 so go now to get copies of your work to put on your own website or other content earning site.

There are lots of other places to write basically whatever you want, and get paid upfront for doing so, like ReviewStream, or Listverse. Some suggestions:

I saw this news some time ago about the Yahoo Contributor Network being terminated. I think some people should consider writing for themselves. Create your own site and write content for it. Monetize that site in different ways. That way, you maintain ownership and control of your content.

Thanks for including my site. I'd like to chime in saying that if you are writer, instead of spending your efforts on growing other people's business grow yours.

Start a blog and be consistent about it and very soon you will start seeing results out of it. I am a freelance writer and I am trying everything possible to stop that and grow my own business and blogs.

Here is the story of a person who has made more than $100k with blog that's a year old, does $12k in consistent income and is not even indexed on Google, that's what happens when you do things http://godofseo.co/case-study/one-year-on/

I just discovered that the Yahoo Contributor was formerly known as Associated Content, and I actually published a bunch of articles there, never knowing that they changed.

I'd like to get my articles back, but I don't know how to access them in Yahoo Contributor... I sent a message though, so I hope they can figure something out.

Fortunately, I do have some previous versions of these articles on my hard drive... so I can repurpose them once the network shuts down I suppose...

Yahoo does worse every year. It is a miracle if they can even survive. Still remember when Yahoo was the king of search engines. That was a long time ago. Do you remember Yahoo auction when they were gonna beat e-bay with a free auction, but they could not even beat e-bay a terrible poor service company. Hey, that both have stayed alive this long is a surprise. Yahoo is the radio shack of search engines. Like they should have closed up years ago.

Yeah, it's kind of crazy all the opportunities they have missed over the years. Some of their stuff like Yahoo Finance was pretty good.

Others not so much. For awhile I had some domains at Yahoo. Worse user interface of any domain seller I ever experienced. Horrible.

But I still use them as my homepage.

Yahoo is a case where I'd probably like to see them get swallowed up by another company. Their email interface and service is horrendous, whether on PCs or on mobile devices.

It's really a shame - I used to live minutes from their HQ, and knew a lot of the original team there. They simply never kept pace with G's technology and lost ground. Early on, they made the decision to stay on the path of being the 'home' page for the internet user, the one stop portal that was the default page on your browser, but not sure how many of us use that type of set-up anymore?

I used to use the Australian version of My Yahoo as my home page. On there I had links and RSS feeds from sites I was interested in. In other words I had access to content I wanted.

Then they shut that down "in order to provide users with easy access to Yahoo's own content." I had that homepage from 1999 to 2014.

I've tried the US version of My Yahoo, but the interface is terrible, nothing lines up correctly, there's no facility to redesign the page, and you cannot get rid of the advert that appears on it.

As a consequence I spent a day setting up my own homepage, and avoid everything Yahoo. I still use their Mail service, but have bypassed that as well, and get any emails redirected to a different address, so avoid Yahoo again.

    Stupid, stupid company.
