What Laptop Should I Get To Create Whiteboard Animation Videos?

Hey,

I currently have this laptop...

Acer E1-571 Core i5 Windows 8 Laptop - Acer Direct

I recently started making whiteboard animation videos with Sparkol and I can tell my laptop is struggling producing them/rendering them.

I don't have much idea when it comes to computers, so I was hoping someone could give me some advice on what should I be looking at getting so it would easily run a program like this.

What laptops/computers are easily able to manage video editing programs and such?

Thanks Joe

  • This machine looks to me to be a little weak for running a lot more up to date, powerful video editing software. Not that it isn't a good machine, it just isn't for the job you're trying to do. I looked over the specs on the link you provided and it is lacking in at least three departments.

    1. The video card is not very powerful for this work. Search for computers with nVidea or AMD parts. At least 1GB of memory.
    2. The processor is only dual core, a pretty out-dated processor now days. A quad core processor would be ideal for this work right now. More processing power is always a plus.
    3. I would try to find more RAM.
I know for a lot of work like this, Mac's are a favorite. Lots of designers, artists, and editors used them in college. They're definitely not the cheapest route, but may be a more guaranteed route to getting powerful equipment to crank out quality work. If you're looking for a better machine, just go to your preferred computer supply and when you look for machines, try to focus on the 3 things I mentioned above. Let me know if this helps any or PM me if you have any more questions, I'll try to help best I can.
  • It looks quite decent to me. However if you do these videos daily, might need an upgrade. Are you dynamic or static, meaning to you move a lot? Desktop computers are usually way more powerful than laptops are.

But if whiteboard videos are your main source of living, it's good to have a good work equipment. I bought Lenovo G510 lately with i7. Quite powerful for the price.

    • The answer is simple, get the fastest thing you can afford, Most ram, biggest capacity hd, fastest processor, most video ram etc. Read the mags that bench test them. Also quality of construction and reliability.

Why you would want to do this on a laptop though? My wife's a pro graphic art and design person as well as vids. She uses a powerful full sized machine with a large monitor.
