"It isn't that children with ADD (Attention Deficit 'Disorder')/ADHD can't pay attention: when they're doing things they enjoy or hearing about topics in which they're interested, they have no trouble focusing and staying on task. But when the task is repetitive or boring, they quickly tune out." ADD / ADHD in Children: Signs & Symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder

If that's true - they are smarter than the rest of us who will sit and smile and nod at a story that bores us silly.

When I was a kid we didn't have disorders, we called it life & just dealt with it.

Odd you would post this today. Just this morning I was cruising down the highway and had on NPR. They were interviewing a guy that had something to do with a new documentary called Boredom. The guy made the claim that the public education system is the greatest health hazard there is for children.

I didn't listen to this interview long -- ironically, the guy was boring.

ADHD is SO heavily over diagnosed, etc... you can't really believe ANYTHING "mental health professionals" say.

For years the school would tell my wife that her youngest daughter had a learning disability. When I became her guardian at the first school meeting I asked them what the disability was. The vice principal had to go get her records to find out. When he came back he said she didn't want to pay attention and learn things she wasn't interested in.
So I told him maybe the disability was in the teachers not making their subjects interesting.

This is the most blatant attempt to sell drugs that we've ever let be perpetrated against us. Of course, people pay attention more when they're interested. Duh. In some countries they test kids for their interests and aptitudes then design their education around that. I'm sure the kids still have to learn a lot of subjects they don't care for, but that is tempered with a lot of courses that love, and those kids excel.

I'd probably be drugged stupid today by the school system. Never could do math -- until I got into college and got to take some really interesting science and logic courses. Then a couple of my profs got in my face and told me I should be in physics. Scared me crapless. Nobody had ever put math into a perspective before that made me want to know anything more than the basics. Nobody even recognized that I was damned good at it. Math is a science. Psychology is nothing but conjecture.
