People spoke of how the asians were treated, etc... Well, I was trying to find info about german speaking areas in fort wayne, etc.... Did YOU know that, in about 47 US states, German is apparently the most popular secondary language other than spanish? In 1 state it is actually the most popular secondary language.

Anyway, I have alluded to such things before, but I found this interesting article:

News-Sentinel.com

There is even a statement that they might have arrested people for not filing the 2nd, and last, form to become citizens, and thus violating their requirement to stay in the us, if not for the fact that the person charged with arresting them hadn't HIMSELF failed to do so! But people were arrested for even speaking german. One person, sketching buildings for appraisals was arrested on suspicion of being a spy. One poor polish guy was ACTUALLY ARRESTED for admiring the US flag! The reason? Basically, this was during WWI and they were treated this way for the same reason Germans, Asians, etc... were treated this way in WWII.

Like Ireland, after Great Britain invaded, they were forbidden to even teach their culture and language.

This is one of the reasons my mother's family were so damned edgy and scared during the cold war. Wasn't a good time for feeling comfy in the US if you were Russian descent or immigrant.

The ironic thing is that many germans and russians came here to escape some aspect of the old country, or to take advantage of the new one. By take advantage, I mean some germans came here to have more religious freedom, until perhaps 1920, for example, The amish, for example. They are from germany. Some jewish germans may have come after that because they saw the writing on the wall. Some russians came here to escape communism, etc....

Yeah, I don't know WHO started the myth that the cold war EVER ended. It is STILL continuing. In fact, a russian diplomat and recently putin HIMSELF, have OPENLY declared that they can, and MAY, use nuclear weapons against the US. Putin said that about a week ago, IIRC, The diplomat said it a couple months ago.

BTW although TINY, compared to the indians, I have ended up working with a number of russian US residents. MOST, about 80%, that I have worked with were DBAs(DataBase Administrators). And some of them did say they liked the US better.

My family came over to get away from being slaughtered by the Bolshevik.

I think they're starting to change their minds. They did like it better because we had more freedom. Russia's made some pretty big strides toward freedom since Stalin and Khrushchev, but still is a dictatorship. The states are losing every freedom we ever had.

One of the reasons I was vague. Yeah, there are LOTS of reasons.

Yeah, I met the last one around 2007, IIRC, so it IS a bit dated. Putin DOES have an aire of respectability that.... ICSM. Of course, you have to watch things. I don't know putin personally, and haven't followed his sayings. ALSO, they are SKILLED in double speak and there is always the potential for a message getting scrambled in translation.
