Some females actually enjoy mechanics. I'm not one of them. It ticks me off to have to check my oil. Not saying I don't do it. I've had to adjust my carb and install a new started, new fuel filter on my own. It's not hard stuff - you just have to have the interest in it. When I was in HS we had 2 girls in our mechanics shop. We had a couple of guys in home ec. I know a lot of guys from my home town rebuilt cars during high school because it was the only way they could afford cars that would actually run.

Neat story, but not in any way surprising to me.

It's a cool video, seeing someone make a car from scratch. I find it kind of odd that in this day and age, a girl doing mechanics would be an issue with folks in society. Females taking on suchlike endeavors has always been something that's been part of my everyday life. My sisters went into science or engineering (that said, truth be told -- they're kind of butch).

I realize there's tools that take the strength factor out of it now - but it takes some upper body strength to deal with mechanics. I don't have it. Even when I knew what I had to do to change a thermostat or some such, sometimes I couldn't crank the bolts. Every woman I knew that messed with mechanics was beefy enough to had the upper body strength they needed to do it. That might be why they seem butch. Back in the kitchen, they don't seem any too butch as far as I've seen, but my idea of fun is to drive 4WD trails from hell to get to incredible rocks and tote backpacks of those back to the rig for fun, so what do I know? On the other hand, I can dance women half my age off a dance floor and do it in stilettos. Butch doesn't usually encompass all facets of the personality, I don't think. Still want my oil changed for me.

HeySal, I was being facetious when I tacked on "butch" at the end. Like how comedians pontificate then say something hypocritical that contradicts what they just said. Sometimes it makes the audience laugh. I'm not a comedian but I tried.

She should add a 350 small block instead of that rebuilt V6, she's already welding so adding the new motor mounts/brackets wouldn't be a big deal.

I admire that she pretty much self funded it via baby sitting and selling her welding art.

Cool story. Reminds me of my gf's 14 year old daughter who last year wanted carpenter tools for Xmas. So her mom got her a tool box, I got her a jigsaw and a couple other tools, her uncle got her a cut-off saw, etc... She then proceeded in the next couple of weeks to make a nice hardwood dog crate/table to replace an ugly wire one and a 6' x 3' work table with shelves and drawers. Interesting girl. I was once over there and the TV had a baseball game on. She asked me if she could turn the channel and I said sure since I wasn't watching the game anyways really. She turned it a show called "How Stuff Works" and watched that for a couple hours. She's going to do just fine when she grows up.
