"On top of this, critical feedback given to men was “heavily geared towards suggestions for additional skills to develop,” she writes. For women, on the other hand, much of it focused on their personalities. Seventy-one of the 94 critical reviews had such personality-based feedback, compared to just two of the 83 critical reviews for men."

I used to joke about it with friends though I have to admit I was not really affected by it. I had good bosses when I used to work real life jobs.

I think there are two reasons for feedback women get. First is the old line thinking that a man forging ahead at work is a "leader" but a woman is "pushy". There is still - even today - the concept that it's difficult for a woman to "work and be a mother". Does anyone ask a man if it's hard to "work and be a father"? Doubt it.

What I noticed in business was that male bosses seem to think women can take criticism better than men - and they find it easier to critique female employees while being more "tactful" with men under their supervision.

It's getting better and women in business are beginning to get their due...

I have been in a LOT of places, and a number of them had women they REALLY respected. Maybe 80% of the managers, etc.. were men. On one project I was on recently, I dealt with the same old people. ONE was missing!!!!!!

She was a nice woman. So what happened to HER?: OH, she was promoted! She was my bose's boss's boss's boss! BTW everyone was happy with it, and never said a bad word about her even when she was just MY boss. My position hadn't changed, by the way.

And don't think that men always get a hand up, or that women never do.

She looked at 248 reviews from 105 men and 75 women spread across 28 different tech companies from startups, mid-sized companies, and large corporations.
GIVE ME A BREAK! That is a TINY sample! She should look at TAMRAC( tamrac | Home ) some time! I bet you 100% of those getting complaints are WOMEN!!!!!!!! WHY? Because about the only people doing work that would generally be judged are women, last I knew anyway. I'm betting the boss doesn't tell HER HUSBAND that he is fixing the computer too slowly, etc... They probably also don't often complain to their truck drivers. So that leaves WOMEN! HECK, even if the president complains to HER VICE PRESIDENT that SHE is not doing something right, well...

BTW I bet tamrac has MORE women working for them than ALL the people in that studied queried. Outside of truck drivers, when I was there, you could count the men on one FINGER! YEP, ONE FINGER! BTW they apparently had some women truck drivers also.

And maybe the men aren't so open, especially to women, calling from the media.

As for the russians I spoke about earlier, in another thread? One was effectively my boss's boss for a time. SHE was respected also.
