This really happened apparently. I wasn't aware that Facebook was down, but apparently it went down Friday morning last week and people in LA called 911 to report it.

911 calls about Facebook outage angers L.A. County sheriff's officials - LA Times

Of course Twitter went nuts as well.

    I love the comment....

"Guys, we're going to get through this together"

I was driving earlier and heard a new announcement of FB being down (and ebay, too, I think). I chuckled thinking of all the panicked people.

    Pathetic.

And it shows the mentality/intelligence of the Facebook users that called 911 - I sure hope somebody didn't die while the phones were backed up with NINNIES.

Reminds me again of why I deleted my FB account years ago.

However you have made me laugh Suzanne: "... screaming DO YOU LIKE THIS? DO YOU?" = because you remind me of that commerical I think it is for car insurance and this little old lady is talking about how she saved money in just a few minutes online to find cheaper insurance.

The funny part is she has all her old lady friends over and she has pasted all her photographs on her 'wall' for them to share - then she doesn't like it when one of them says they found cheaper insurance faster and she says something about she is going to 'unlike' her for that.

oh well it is not as funny when I am telling it as it is seeing it. (too lazy to find a video if there is one).

Yeah ... that commercial made me laugh when she put all those photos on her "wall."

Here's another one. "Went downstairs to see my family. They seem like nice people." lol

I heard about this same thing happening a while back as well. Truly mind-boggling that anyone thinks Facebook being down is an emergency. Even worse, though, is that onslaught of 911 calls may have prevented someone who really had an emergency from getting through.

I really think people should be fined for calling 911 for this sort of nonsense. Maybe most of the callers were minors, but sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't.

If Facebook shut down for good, I wouldn't think twice about it. It's amazing, though, how many people's lives seem to center around it.

Some of the comments are pretty funny, but the stupidity of calling 911 over a website being down is disturbing. Has our intelligence level fallen that far?

    Sigh . . . I guess so.

It's not that it's fallen, it just hasn't peaked.

      Yup.

Just do a search for "911 calls from burger king".

And that's just Burger King. There's McDonalds, Wendy's, Jack in the Box...

"Calling 911" is a whole step up from starting a thread in the Main Marketing Forum to ask "Is Facebook dead?", isn't it?
