Shameful - couple reliant on government handouts have second child

In a decision that many are labelling irresponsible, a couple who only a year ago had their first child, is to have another, despite relying on welfare to get by.
Further investigations have revealed that the father comes from a family where welfare dependence is engrained. Social worker Jenny Bridgeworth said she had discovered a pattern of taxpayer reliance in the family stretching back generations. “I feel sorry for them. You see this a lot. He’s grown up knowing no other way”.

We have the same problem here. generations of families are being raised on welfare and GVNT support.

I would love to be in a position where I can offer a way out off welfare dependecy

You misunderstand, they do not want a way off welfare. In fact, their attitude is that they should be paid more.

Better get paid now because it's not happening with Social Security when retirement rolls around.

Ask that social worker how much they'll be collecting when they reach the age to collect SS. It will be pennies on the dollar that they paid into SS over an entire work lifetime.

A second child on welfare - nice. In the US we have women that are having 6, 8, 10 kids on welfare. That's why when I say "forced sterilization" I don't call it fascist. I call it stopping cows from over-breeding the herd into extinction.

Yes, churning out children apart from being crippled for life seems to be the only way to get money from the gov, without any gov, tricks?

Welfare in AU, is getting harsher and harsher, and will probably lead to under 30 year old,s resorting to crime, by next financial year?

I think this idea is perfectly reasonable, and don't understand why anyone would think otherwise.

The average number of children per woman in the US is 2.1. 4.1% of the population is on welfare. 19% of them are off welfare within 7 months.

Forced sterilization ... this is the United States - not China.

EDIT: LOL ... read the story.

Doesn't change the fact that's it's insanely irresponsible to have more children while on welfare.

It's insanely irresponsible to do a lot of things while on welfare. How about eating ice cream? Or buying pot? Or renting a movie? Or even having a TV? So, let's just kill them all. I personally don't sweat the amount of my taxes that go to welfare recipients. If not there, it'll be blown somewhere else.

Yeah, sorry. I was distracted while replying to your comment. In doing so, I found a correlation that wasn't there. My bad.

That said. I agree with you about not sweating the welfare deal. I wouldn't trade places with them for anything. Even the ones who are gaming the system and think they have it made.

I just feel sorry for the kids raised in that environment. Hopefully they'll discover what amazing opportunities there are in the world and find a way to prosper.

I do too, and I wouldn't want the kids punished (as in going without food and necessities) because parents make bad decisions. The thing about taxes is ... they take the same percent no matter what kind of stupid shit they spend it on. I feel better about it going on someone's dinner table or for clothing on children's backs or school supplies and books than I do for most of the stuff the government spends my money on. Kids don't make family planning decisions or any other decisions. They just suffer the consequences for either bad decisions or circumstances gone completely bad for a family like job loss or sudden illness or diability, etc.

Exactly. And it's not like welfare recipients are sticking the money into savings or investments. They're consumers. The money's going right back into the system one way or another.

Suzanne; I think that may be a little extreme. Sure, sterilize the mom...that just makes sense. But kill them all? I think that's just taking it a tad too far.

Unless you could do it wholesale. Then it just makes sense.

            I agree.

With regular welfare, at least the recipients are using the money to actually have a place to live and to eat and most if not all of the money goes right back into our economy whereas with the corporate welfare, it's just extra gravy on top of their profits that doesn't go back into the general economy and just pads their ready cash reserves and/or helps them play dangerous games with the investment markets.

OH, except for the banks and huge companies that got "bailouts" (welfare on the taxpayer's dime on a grand scale) because they were too big to fail. Not only did they receive money that they had not earned, they spent a big portion of it giving themselves huge bonuses and remodeling their offices and other extravagant expenditures. They can allow pure greed to run their companies into the ground and then just get a great big ole handout without anyone suggesting that they should be sterilized or some other ridiculously fascist statement.

But let some money go to poor people, poor children, poor families to feed and clothe children and some "good" people think that surgery is the answer.

At the end of the day, those bankers would tank this economy all over again to line their pockets with wealth, thereby creating yet another recession or even worse, a depression and creating the very poor that no thinks needs a helping hand.

Well, that was illegal in ANYONE'S books, except the current admin. That wasn't the normal way of doing things. It shouldn't have gone to "the poor" EITHER! That money NEVER EXISTED! "The FED" COUNTERFEITED it and, in doing that act that is EVERY BIT as illegal as if you or I did it, it was STOLEN from the country that is SUPPOSED to be the US.

Now, can we seriously get down to solving the problem. Namely, male castration and the sewing up of the Vaggie.

              It's the only answer!

In the UK we are having real problems with people trying to come here from the Eastern European Union who have heard about the amazing welfare system we have. Now, the government it trying to throttle it back a lot, it's getting too expensive and had gone too far. You could be better off with a few kids in terms of accommodation, hand-outs etc than if you had been working.

It should be a safety net to help you get by, nothing more. If it gives too much then it just encourages people to be lazy and not fend for themselves, make an effort. The handout is expected and taken for granted.

I was reading recently about the radical welfare system in Chicago. Chicago is not very prosperous these days and was strong on it's welfare. Only half the population were paying their electric bills for years (and this is recent). So, the half that were paying were forking out ever more to subsidize the half that were not as well as the city getting deeper into debt subsidizing the whole thing. They never actually cut the non payers off. Recently someone said this cant go on and sent them out letters saying if they did not pay their current bill and then from their on they would be cut off on a certain date, guess what, all but a few percent paid up! The remainder who genuinely could not pay were helped by welfare.

Too late though, is not Chicago more or less bankrupt.

You won't justify this or provide some sort of evidence to back it up because there isn't any. Lots of girls (and boys) grow up idolizing celebrities and turn out just fine - educated, self-sufficient, upstanding contributors to society. And some even become celebrities themselves. Let's see... Kristi Yamaguchi idolized Dorothy Hamill while growing up, and I'm pretty sure she's not living on welfare...

I at least recognized they were famous, and THOUGHT about king george, etc... I wanted to make sure, and hoped the URL of the picture would give a clue. It said: royal-family2-620x400.jpg DEAD GIVEAWAY!

BTW I know a little about a few royal families, etc... but it is NOT because I have ANY interest in them. Most americans with the level of interest I have, or less, wouldn't even CONSIDER this.

Yep, l clicked on the link, and understand the gag image, but l thought the article was serious, though!

Especially when l overheard a tv news report, saying, something like "breaking news..." at this point l thought, World War 3, or they finally said something about Martian water, but no, just some crap about the Royals having more children!

I swear if we do have the big one, it will be a small image on page one, of the newspaper, and a full page article about this crap or Football, (we are getting Football rammed down our throats at present), at least in Victoria, AU!

Yes they do, considerably more. In fact I don't think saying they're on welfare/government handouts is strictly true, the Queen owns Balmoral castle and has personal fortune of around £1.9 billion.

Right, but it doesn't take much effort to prevent pregnancy either. If you're not in a position to be accountable for the outcomes of your decisions, you should at least be expected to make an attempt at prevention.

Well, that's a whole nuther topic. I almost died from using an IUD and I could never take birth control pills, thereby eliminating the two most effective and easy types of birth control available at the time.

... but I just read that birth control other than condoms will be available for men by 2017.

I can only assume I was wanted, since my mother apparently would have had another if, after having me, she safely could have. My father stayed with us until I was 2, and has ALWAYS been there for me. If I were in the hospital, or left virtually as an ORPHAN, as I was once, HE WAS THERE! When my aorta nearly blew up, he took me to my home, and got my medicine. Did I mention that he had to drop everything and take 2 planes on a cramped ~2000mile flight to do so? Still, if people that can afford kids have kids and take care of them, such as society is, who should care? It is ANOTHER THING ENTIRELY if they have a kid and want everyone else to pay for its substandard care!

      Hi Andrew,

Nanny has Balmoral castle though, so they could easily bunk down there. She could also lend them a smidgen of her £1.9 billion fortune to see them over.

William and Harry also received £10,000,000 when they turned 30 of Diana's cash along with 150 objects currently on display at Althorp from various stages of her life.

So you see, Willy doesn't need a salary and he doesn't need his job in the RAF, he does it because he probably just wants to go to work to get away from the missus and live as close to a normal a life as he can.

That RAF salary incidentally is less than I earned in my last job.

Ps. The caravan referenced in that report is a 2 bed bungalow made from a converted mobile home which isn't technically a caravan and Windsor, well, that's one Mother of an expensive place to live. Besides, they'll have 2 kids soon so they'd do very nicely on the benefits handed out like sweets to the general population here and he could give that job up too!

If they do, I'd imagine that the people of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Durham, the Tyneside and Northumberland might want to join them.

Actually much to peoples surprise those people actually call themselves English and don't want an independent state or to be a part of Scotland.

That being the case too, as you're from Halifax, you're descended from Anglo-Saxons, 2 Germanic tribes, so you, like me and the Royal family, have substantially more Germanic blood than you'd probably feel comfy with.

For the record, my entire Mums side of the family was from Halifax too, so we may even be related somewhere. I can trace that side of the family back to just after 1400.

There's probably a bit of Roman in there as well, plus a bit of Viking, as well as a bit of whoever the original inhabitants were before all those bloody foreigners invaded.

At least no one will be able to call me British anymore. Next week it may not even exist.

I lived in Cornwall for 7 years, St Austell & St Stephen to be precise. The accent was country-fied, "Proper Job Me Handsome". Not a lot of work down their other than China Clay, a huge amount of people on welfare. Tourists were the other means of making money.

Cornwall is a peninsular so 24/7 crosswinds. I remember one day out of those 7 years the wind dropped. I was shocked. Could be a beautiful place to live in the summer but cold and windy a lot of the time.

It seemed like each village had to have, 2 food stores, 2 hairdressers, a Chinese takeaway, a fish a and chip shop, a tv repair place, 2 pubs, a village hall and a church. Otherwise it just was not worthy. Oh yes, you had to have 2 or three people living there as well.

Tourists or non Cornish people were called Emmits

EXACTLY!!!!! In an article yesterday, they spoke of how the temperature didn't go up in like 18 years, but the CO2 HAS. ********DUH********! Want to know WHY? We have SEASONS that control a lot of the weather, and it varies. Will gases change it? SURE! But not so appreciably. After all, we have climates at two VERY different extremes when the CO2 is relatively low. AND, CO2, being a GAS, is in various places at those extremes.

So WHY do we have the extra CO2? Whether it is from cars or not, the idea it is from cars is DUMB! The CO2 from cars has DROPPED!!!!!!! The REAL reason is HUMAN POPULATION! WHY? Well, each human needs air, food, and a place to be, so you not only have to account for THEM, but animals to eat, plants to eat, and a place to stay, infrastructure to move, etc... And YES, eventually CARS! So it is NOT the fact that cars put out CO2, it is that there are SO many of them. You could cut the CO2 to a TENTH, per person, and you would STILL have the problem. You could run the cars on ELECTRICITY, and we still have to contend with how it is generated. Heck, many are getting rid of nuclear. India and pakistan are apparently near WAR because of a dispute involving hydroelectric! Solar and Wind take up extra land.

And the resources needed are MASSIVE! Just go to a SMALL town and look at the streets, telephone poles, etc.... In places like New york city, they can't even sustain HALF the population of the city, so they build massive skyscrapers, and though a LOT of people drive apparently MOST do things like take the subway, under ground for a lot of the time. All that means fewer plants generating a lot of oxygen, and more creatures creating CO2.

But it is interesting how few people talk about this.

When the British gov needed money to fight WW1 the royal family loaned them a lot of it in exchange for the money being paid back along with a nice bonus - the royal family did not have to pay any income taxes going forward.

This went on until I think the mid 1990s when the public heard about it and were outraged.

    BTW...

During WW1 most of the family had a German last name - since Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert was a German but changed it to a more English name - Windsor.

    http://www.royal.gov.uk/Historyofthe...ofWindsor.aspx

I doubt we'll ever see a new dynasty for the British royals for a long, long time if any.

    http://www.royal.gov.uk/Historyofthe...eMonarchy.aspx

I personally don't have a problem with a monarchy as long as its all ceremonial and they don't have any real political power.

Haha, I fell for that one..here we were taliking about irresponsible parents having more kids being supported on welfare! yet the article was actually on the royal couple Will and Kate..

I'm no Monarchist, but the article is a bit stupid really, as they aren't benefit cheats ripping off the system.

Not so much, I think ... state benefits are increasingly "capped", here, at the moment.
