OK, first of all, if you are a Bush supporter. Don't watch.

Now, for the rest of us, which is like 75%, this is a classic. I can't watch this too many times. I can watch this over and over.

Colbert goes after not only Bush, but also the MSM, and the Generals, who aren't very amused either. He seems to be relishing the silence. Watch when it comes. He lets it lay there.

I can just imagine Colbert when he got this assignment saying "They do not know what they are getting into". Great job Steven.

    Got to love Steven.
Would have been interesting if John Stewart got to speak also though.

That was pretty good and took some balls to do.

I thought Bush took it all very well too.

A big surprise Steven wasn't invited to go "Duck" hunting with the Veep after that.

Did you notice he had to have the guy next to him explain what Steven was saying?

Oh my, I hadn't seen this clip and I have to say that Steven Colbert is absolutely hilarious. That man has to have testicles the size of basketballs to roast George W. Bush to his face like that. It seems that most of the audience wasn't amused, but they did take it all in stride and dealt with the shots pretty well, although I'm sure there were some very descriptive words about Colbert used later that night (when the jokes finally set in).

Yes. I did notice that. But that's the status quo. He always needs someone to explain things to him.

Ya know, I've always kinda suspected that BUSH just ACTS like an idiot on purpose, that way he can get away with just about anything. And "we the people" feel sorry for him, rather than attack him. My reasoning behind this is simply because it's hard for me to believe people can REALLY be THAT ignorant. It can't be so. Can it?

Cheers to Mr. Colbert for having Brass Balls. You have to admit, that would be hard to pull off and he did it very nicely.

As for the 2nd video of Laura Bush supposedly telling him to "Get F*cked"....
I'm not convinced. You couldn't really tell what she was saying. But even if she was, so what? He deserved it. He has smearing her husband all of the floor, the walls and the ceiling. He's lucky she didn't kick him in the nuts. LOL

I was almost rolling on the floor laughing but I forgot that I was in an internet shop.

Steven Colbert is the best correspondent to speak in that dinner and his brand of comedy is just amazing. The deafening silence of the audience adds more zest to the humor! And Laura Bush? Why she's just furious over Steven's speech in that dinner. She knew that Bush didn't know what Steven was talking about and that got her fuming. I guess we all know where the higher IQ resides in that family.

The catch here is that it was not really supposed to be funny for those in the audience, or for those who support George W. Bush, rather it was meant to be a roast, which calls out every foible and flaw and casts it for all to see and poke at. In that regards he succeeded very well.

Well, 3 out of 4 think it is so far. Just like Bush's non-approval ratings. :-)

Speaking of not funny, two years earlier the audience at the same annual white house correspondence dinner were laughing their asses off while George was cracking jokes. Take a look, but I'll warn you this does have extremely graphic images. I do think this was Cobert's reasoning for really going after Bush.

You are telling me that he put those pictures in his presentation? Or did someone on youtube do that?

I am talking about the American soldiers who died and the mutiliated miscellenaous people.

That was part of Bush's original presentation?

The war is obscene. Bush joking about WMDs is obscene. The video shows the results from the war. It's reality. Of course someone else added the pictures. Bush certainly doesn't want those photos shown. He doesn't even want the caskets of US soldiers shown.

Yeh, I just can't imagine what someone who lost a loved one (or a leg) in this nightmare would think of this exploitation.

You're talking about Bush's joke, right?

That last video wasn't meant as a joke, it was meant to show outrage at Bush's "joke". It wasn't meant to be funny. Cobert's speech on the other hand was meant to be both, but as Ben said, he wasn't looking to get laughs from the dinner crowd.

No - I do think that the graphics do show how really not funny the joke is. They are quite mind-blowing actually. . This is really quite effective but in bad taste nonetheless. Reality sucks, ya know.

I just think perpetuating the whole thing, is sickening. It made me want to commit suicide when I saw them.

Back to the comedian. I admit I don't think much comedy is funny. On the other hand 'it's not what you say but how you say it' - I didn't think the guy was funny at all. Not just because the subject isn't funny.,

Still on the other hand, I start laughing the minute I see Jim Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Stanley Laurel or Jerry Lewis - they don't have to say anything - there is just something funny about them.

                                  Editing is an interesting thing.

President Bush checking with the guy next to him twice is the same clip repeated and who knows which one, if any, is in sequence. Could have been a clip from a totally different time. Also, some of the other clips of Mr. Bush are lined up curiously with what Colbert is saying.

There is no proof in the video Mrs. Bush said anything like what is indicated. There is no distinguishable audio and it is funny how the words are flashed across the screen to reinforce the idea psychologically.

War is an awful thing and people getting injured and dying is no joke. However, the third video is just another example of inventive editing to push the editors ideology.

I could counter with "proof" of WMDs despite the (now seemingly mainstream) mantra that "Bush lied".

Yes, I know the WMDs and the materials even came from the US in some cases, but not all. Saddam was bad dude and we should be glad he is gone.

Was it worth the lives of our soldiers? The gut feeling, of course, is NO WAY, but it is hard to say long term. No one knows what the future would have been with Saddam left in power. The bad thing is... there is always another dictator out there waiting to take their place on the world stage and in the history books.

What is the 100% real truth about everything that goes on in the world? Who knows the 100% real truth about anything.

Whatever the case... spreading even more unreliable (edited) crap around doesn't help anything.

                                  -Michael

PS Obviously I don't hate Bush, but I will be glad when his Presidency is over. It will be interesting to see what happens when the left can't blame everything on Bush anymore. I suppose they will blame it on McCain / Palin if they are in, and still blame it on Bush if Obama / Biden are in. LOL

PPS I would like to hear from someone who has been President of the USA and knows what it is like with what they think about all this. Any takers?

Yeh, all three videos were edited. I realized they showed the same Bush reaction a few times in the first video. They obviously edited two videos together. However, what does that proove about Colbert's routine?

The second video I said "decide for yourself". It's not in Laura Bush's character to say something like that, but I could understand her being totally pissed.

The third video again is obviously edited. But you can find Bush making these remarks in text and in other videos which show his whole speech or routine. Just google Bush wmd joke and you find all sorts of references to it. It was very controversial in 2004.

Now, regarding the so called WMDs that were found. The sarin gas shell and mustard gas shells were left over from the the early 1990s. These weren't the wmd's we were looking for. That's no evidence. The US officially closed the search for WMDs in 2005 and also stopped the investigation of seeing if Iraq sent wmd to Syria. They concluded there weren't any wmd and didn't find any evidence that they were sent to Syria.

Regarding George Sada, he is believable, but he is basically saying he heard this from his friends. There hasn't been anyone to collaborate his story. He also says there wasn't a nuclear program in Iraq from what I understand. What would be his motive? Maybe sell some books?

Even if Sada is right, which is a big if, that doesn't mean Bush didn't lie. I can list a lot of examples where the admin cheery picked data, disregarded other data, decieved us and yes, I would say just downright lied to us.
