    • Really?

      Talk about wishful thinking!

All I have to say about the first half of the title "The Debate About GMO Safety Is Over" is, No it's not!

And to the second half, "Thanks To A New Trillion-Meal Study", No thanks!

It seems to me that spending a trillion dollars on other health issues would have been more effective for the human population.

the next US president should remove GMO labels.

or rather he should randomly put GMO label on "organic" (wink wink) foood and remove some GMO labels on GMO. This way, he could go in his state of the union:

"Haha, you've eaten GMOs for twenty years and then you didn't get cancer, I was right all along."

A dozen people against one guy and not one of them takes the time to read the article I've mentioned.

Are you guys that emotionally threatened by the idea of GMOs? Look: somneone in your camp even made their kids into a suicide bomber.

    • [3] replies
    • How do you know that?
I read the article before my first post. The guys an idiot.
If you believe gmos are safe for animal feed or anything else you're an idiot also.
    • Suicide bomber? ... looks more like a popcorn maker to me
      • [ 5 ] Thanks
    • For your information, I read the article in full and I still call bull crap!

Growing up my grandpa called me a real little princess, my dad called me princess, and I was named after an Indian princess in a movie my parents watched while I was still in the making.

So I could say I am a real princess and publish an article on the web stating I am a real princess but that wouldn't make it true. Or do you believe everything you read on the net is true?

As for the trillion dollars, I was being conservative as to the price of meals as they could very well be cheaper in other countries. Expand your thought processing ability and you may just get it.

It doesn't matter if you read one article or a thousand if you haven't done any experiments yourself.
    Have you?
Get some hamsters and feed them GMO. Then talk.

Wow. Uncouthness have invaded my peaceful thread very fast.

The opposition is visibly upset and have resorted to personal attacks due to their lack of substantive arguments against GMOs.

Thank you to all who will keep the WF free of personal attacks.

    • I gave links showing the harmful effects of gmo's.
There are numerous studies that prove that article wrong.
Seems you're ignoring those as usual.
By the way if you think I'm upset, well that's just further proof of my idiot theory.
  • Whats the line in that John Mayer song? "...when they own the information, they can bend it all they want"
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • Do you know how many hundreds of millions of dollars Monsanto and the processed food industry are spending right now to keep you from knowing the harm of GMO's? I would love to know how much this person made for writing this crap.

It seems that every time someone wants to lie to us now we hear "the debate is over". In this case - yes it is.
GMOs do not yield more crops per acre.
GMO's result in MORE pesticide use.
The pesticides used for GMO are killing bees and the bacteria that makes soil. If you test any portion of fields with GMOs planted you will find it void of life other than the GMO crop.
GMOs have been tested on animals and the result is huge tumors.
The incidents of cancer are much higher in areas where GMOs are planted.
GMOs have caused a terrible super-weed problem.

Why do these companies fight so hard to force GMOs on you? Why do they spend hundreds of millions to deny you labeling that tells you what your food is made of? Why does Monsanto actively spend money to kill organic farming practices - to make heirloom seeds unavailable to the public?

Monsanto is like a virus that's too strong for it's hosts. It's going to force it's products down its supporters throats until it kills off all of its supporters. Now that's just a special kind of stupid.

    • Another idiot. For example
Let's see they discovered the increase of a poison in potatoes through TESTING. So we know one statement he's making is a lie.
When he says this "There have been instances where plants bred using classical techniques have been unsuitable for human consumption." is he using it as an excuse for gmo's being unsuitable for human consumption or an example of how if a food item is found to be unsafe it should be discontinued.
Both these idiots are just using information supplied and approved by the bio-tech industry. There's real unbiased information out there on the real effects of growing gmos, feeding them to livestock, and feeding them to humans.
You can continue to pump out this garbage all you want and cry that uncouthness has invaded your peaceful thread. IF you believe it you're an idiot, if you're trying to provoke people, then you're still an idiot.

    Features of denialism:

    1) Cast doubt on the science.
    2) Question the scientists’ motives and integrity.
    3) Magnify any disagreements among the scientists; cite gadflies as authorities.
    4) Exaggerate the potential for harm from the science.
    5) Appeal to the importance of personal freedom.
    6) Object that acceptance of the science would repudiate some key philosophy.
    • [1] reply
    • Yep exactly what the gmo advocates do.
You see gmo's aren't science. In fact they try to circumvent all the actual science of growing crops like agronomy, botany, and soil science.
      • [ 5 ] Thanks
  • Every independent study of GMOs proves that they are deadly. So how is siding with people not funded by the the foxes guarding the hen houses "non-scientific"?

It's real simple. You want GMOs? Fine -
don't grow them where I'm exposed to the tons of really poisonous pesticides that are required for them,
Do not get them near organic fields where they can contaminate other crops.
LABEL the damned foods with GMOs in them so I have as much choice about what I eat as you do.

If they are as damned harmless as you want to think they are - why is it that the only ones saying so are those funded BY the GMO industry? Why are they trying to take my right to choose? If they are so harmless what's the problem with labeling them? (and don't say cost - we've already debunked the cost of changing a damned label. Any real marketer can figure that simple shit out)
    • [ 4 ] Thanks
  • 'We now have a large set of data, both experimental and observational, showing that genetically modified feed is safe and nutritionally equivalent to non-GMO feed.'

What a bunch of B---S--- Who actually believes that crap?
Just read part of the following article and see if you REALLY want to eat GMO food. If you want to poison your body, go ahead... be my guest. But don't expect the rest of us to follow suit!!

Meet the New Monsanto: Dow Chemical... and Their New 'Agent Orange' Crops*|*Andrew Kimbrell
    Jenny

Also wanted to add... I'll never forget the first time I had an organic apple. Couldn't believe the taste, it was like it was a totally different fruit. Haven't been able to eat a non-organic apple since.

Oh and, btw, do you like chicken? Chickens have now been 'engineered' to grow in about a third to half the time it used to take before killing them. Consequently they grow so fast that many times their legs can't support their weight and they're laying in their feces all day.

    yummy chicken breast!

The rection of the rednecks in this thread is hilarious. lol

At first they go when they see the articles I've posted:
    Then they go:
    "they're LYING. No no no! You're a monsanto shill it's poison! "

    looooooooooooooooooool
    • [1] reply
    • wow! who are you calling a redneck? What is your definition of a redneck, I'd really like to know?
I am actually very much a city woman. Now I live in a smaller city - I worked as the Website programmer for 8 years for a local heirloom seed company. I learned a lot about organics - our region is very much into it - the Niagara region of Ontario is a beautiful area, with lots of farms, orchards, and wineries - it's a grower's paradise. And most people in this area are anti-GMO - it has nothing to do with being a redneck, and everything to do with growing quality, safe food.

If you support GMO foods, you support the destruction of the world. There is a reason that much of Europe has boycotted Monsanto and GMO foods - please educate yourself and don't believe the main stream North American media which, in the case of the article you first pointed out, was bought and paid for by the corporations who stand to gain from the production of GMO foods.

Wow there, who is the troll?

I have been civil throughout this whole discourse. The same cannot be said for the opposing parties.

    • Okay, you tell me...

Troll definition - One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument

It is no well kept secret that we have been discussing the dangers of GMOs for quite some time here. It is also obvious to anyone who can read that the majority of us here are anti-Gmo. You can read, right?

I'm sorry, but the handwriting is on the wall of who here was trolling with their post.

So have you figured out who the real troll is yet?

I don't believe that the dogpiling and petty insults reflect badly upon me in so much as they reflect badly upon the characters of the opposition (and their likely blue collar origins).

Especially when they use "Emily Glass" as an authority source.

    • Well, lets be fair at least at the moment, (sharpening my knives) he could just be young and impressionable?

Well, a 20 year old, who goes ape-shit over other members of his family leaving the fridge door open, because it will destroy the planet .000000000002% faster, could be considered a Troll in training, or even considered insane by some members?

But he or she will grow out of it, but a tongue lashing, etc, doesn't hurt!

But l have to admit, that Troll like behavior is surfacing, but being young and stupid goes hand in hand.

We need to educate these people and put them on the right, path, or tie them up in a room and throw sharp knives about, whichever comes first!

OK, I don't want to reply tit for tat.

I think my thread didn't end well so please lock it.

Yes, I admit defeat. I have little respect and certainly no patience for people that resort to personal insults, dogpiling as a first debate tactic. Little respect either for people who source virtual unknowns.

So yeah, welcome all to my ignore list.

And yes, I have been given an education, an education in the nature of the American (and perhaps western) lumpenproletariat. A backward, retarded, culturally ignorant, and luddite minority that hopefully does not represent the whole.

    Farewell.
    • [2] replies

    • I am not American, but if the fact that I am against GMOs and stated an opinion, means I get put on your ignore list, then I feel sorry for you - you are going to be a very lonely Warrior with a huge ignore list of every single person who doesn't agree with you.

I have been a member of this forum for over 6 years. I have had "run ins" with a few members back in the day - not one of them is on my ignore list - you know why? Because I'm mature enough to realize that not everyone is always going to like me, or agree with my opinions, and because sometimes, I too, as a normal human being, screw up.
