Beerocracy: Who drinks the most beer worldwide?

Surprising. We're not even on the map on this one. Where I live there are around 10 micro breweries within 20 miles so I figured we'd at least be part of the beer drinking world.

      Yeah it is.

I remember in my party days in Nashville there was a two stepping place called Silverados.

Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 1 cent beer long necks from 7 till 10pm.

People would throw down 10 to 15 no problem thru the night.
      Girls and boys.

      Some real Beer drinkers there.

But I guess Oktoberfest puts us to shame

Back in the 70's the bars would have some crazy drink specials around here. One had 3 gins for a buck night and another (down by Woodstock) had twenty-five cent shots of J.D. on Weds. nights. The neighborhood bar I drank at always had .25 drafts and you could get a boiler maker for .75.
By the way the last time I went to my neighborhood bar for a drink was about 8 years ago. I asked the bar maid for a bud long neck. She said they didn't carry it.
I asked do you have bud in a bottle, she said yes.
I asked does the bottle have a kind of long neck on it, she got me my beer

I grew up about 12 miles from Oxford, Ohio and
    Miami University.
That was back in the days of 3.2 beer.
1970, and,18 was the legal age for 3.2.
Pretty much everybody in my graduating class
had a fake ID by the time they were 16.
3.2 was the only alcohol legal in Oxford.
It was the #1 3.2 beer outlet in the world.

Did I mention, all the hippie chicks runnin' around in Halter tops and "Daisy Dukes"?
    Good times!

I grew up in Oxford (and getting ready to move back there this winter) - and I remember good old 3.2 beer. You could drink all night on that stuff.

Wow - the US has roughly 30 times more people and the Czech Republic drinks nearly twice as much beer. I need to up my game . . . a lot!

As for me, I don't even like beer. Must be because Grama came from the Slovak part of Czechoslovakia.

Hmmm....if I recall correctly, the original Bud recipe is Czech.

Yep, the original Czech beer is Budweiser Budvar.

Wow, that's a surprise! Can't believe we're #14. The Czechs must drink a LOT of beer. I figured the US and Germany would be at the top. See Germany is #3 behind Austria.

Went to the Oktoberfest once. It was the first time they actually sold wine, so I was happy (also managed to steal a couple of beer steins, so I was REALLY happy). Surprised I got away with it since they were checking people as they left.

I'm with Terra.... can't stand the taste of it.

I'm not a beer drinker either. I was, however, at Heidelberg for the first night of the Oktoberfest in 1973. It was a night I'll never forget.........until around Midnight - and I don't think I'll ever remember any of it after midnight.

A Castle (ruins) sits high on a cliff/hill above the town - which is bordered on the other side by a wide river. The first night of the Oktoberfest the castle is lined with torches. Around dark the crowd started to move to the dam and bridges so my ex and I followed along. We stood on the dam and faced the castle with the rest of the people, expecting fireworks. When the last of the light was gone, the castle went up in flames. People were singing, but I don't know the song. It was chilly and I just leaned against Gary and we watched the castle "burn". As the last of the flames died out, fire works started. They were the most spectacular I'd ever seen. My ex still has claims to the most romantic night of my life.

Then there was an astoundingly exquisite finally to the fireworks Then everyone went and started drinking for a month. Serious - they partied all throughout October over there.

Like I said - I don't drink beer, although most people were drinking out of quart size steins by the time we got into town from the Dam. I bought a stein, too, but filled mine with wine. The last thing I remember is dancing on the world's largest wine keg at the castle ruins.

Anyhow - thanks for the memory. The way those people downed those steins of beer at every and any event they could find an excuse for filling them, I'm really surprised that Germany wasn't #1 on this list. I'm doubly surprised because their water was scary and did scary things to intestinal tracts.

hmmmm Canada is #25 - I would have guessed we would be up there in the top 10 - for the record, the city I live in has the busiest beer store in the entire province - lol - it's a blue collar town

but me personally, I rather drink a nice glass of dry red wine or a vodka and cranberry juice with a slice of lemon -
beer - meh, I like to cook with it sometimes
