This concept is totally dependent on the age bracket you are looking for. Younger kids are not likely to be targeted with Twitter, but 15+ could be. I think overall your best option would be to use FaceBook. 90% of social marketing is hanging out where your target hangs out. So pinpointing a campaign to say people that like Sesame Street would be the direction I would head to.

Keep in mind with this project that in the younger age categories you are primarily looking to target the female spectrum. 12 yr old boys are going to be more socially connected through X-Box than they are Facebook. The young Female demographic however is going to be more connected with facebook.

ha ha ha so what exactly do you know about "One Direction"? I bet you will know a lot soon! ha ha ha Oh the life of a marketer!

I think you can use Facebook. If you're under 13 you shouldn't have an account on Facebook, but kids know how to select a fake date of birth. You can reach them by targeting the Facebook games they play. A good example is https://www.facebook.com/officialdressupgames. Kids loves dress up games. You can even target the users of FB apps like Miniclip.com's https://www.facebook.com/games/miniclipapp/ and other websites that offer free flash games.

Also, in Europe, Mu Online is a game that kids love. They have many forums that you can use. I know in Romania there is a social network used by many kids 10-14 y.o. it's called TPU.ro and it has around 120,000 visits / day.

I am not familiar with the UK...
Target the sites those kids go to.
Try and get ads on Nick, Disney, etc.
Run YT video ads on kid shows
Run ads on sites that cater to kids hobbies

at a whole foods store yesterday, and below the cashier, the register, even lower were candy figurines.

Really low, and Only visible to toddlers and toddlers in strollers!

So I think facebook would be a crapshoot.. maybe it would work and maybe it wouldn't. I think the best way would be to find top sites where your target market would be visiting and see if they take on advertisers or have adsense on their site. If they have adsense then you could easily setup adwords specifically for those sites you want to advertise on.

Another option would be certain games on the phone or tablet that would have a younger audience and setup adwords for those specific games/apps.

Just my 2 pennies.... It's all theory, since I have no experience targeting younger demographics.

Even though Facebook doesn't allow kids to make themselves profiles, you will see that there are lots of them. If you decide to advertise through FB, what you could do at first is enter some groups that include children users, groups about cartoons, music artist that kids listen to and so on. Just type in Adventure Time Fans on Fb and you will find a 12000+ group eager to hear about your products. After this first step, create a group of your own, as well as a page for your products, where they can like, share and express their opinions. Also, try on gaming forums, many boys (and not only) love video games and post in there. And after you've established a fan base it surely will grow bigger in time. Good luck!

Nothing speacial, still the same well-known social media like FB, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. You should also check some country-specific social media (like MeinVZ in Germany and Nasza Klasa in Poland)
