Using yellowpages.com as a mailing list source

What do you guys think of using yellowpages.com as one of your mailing list resources.

What I am currently doing is finding a neighborhood that I want to market to and looking specifically at the street names on google maps that are inside that neighborhood. From here, I search on yellowpages.com by plugging in the street name, and then all of the addresses on that street pop up with the owners name and number.

I was wondering HOW accurate yellowpages.com could be though. Can I bank on at least 90% of the information being correct? Is there an easy way to double check? What do ya'll think?

    Try it!

Nothing is 100% accurate, just be sure the businesses are still in business.

Why not just go with a list source? It would be worth the money rather than manually checking each address and contact info.

Well I went to a list broker with the neighborhoods and street names that I wanted to target. I told her that I wanted all of the addresses on each of the streets. She said that that would cost me the mailing list fee PLUS research because she would have to do extra research on her own.

I figured that she was probably doing the same thing that I would be doing, a reverse look up of the addresses.

If you want to reach everyone on a block and live in the USA, try eddm (every door direct mailing) the post office offers. You pick the neighborhood, they drop one of your pieces at every address on the route for 16.5 cents (last time I looked was a couple of months back).

95% of anything you mail to a business is going to get thrown out by the secretary or gatekeeper of some kind. Take it a step further, find out who owns the business and send whatever your sending to the owner's home address. You'll get a higher "open" rate and be amazed at what kind of response you get.

I've even had prospects call me up and tell me that they like my "stalker-ish" approach. I'll say something like, well if I can reach you, imagine how well I can reach your customers.
