Never since joining in 2009 have I seen such a dead as a doornail forum as this is right now, it seems like everything has been hit by doomsday and there is nobody left to make human contact. How things change. Houston, Houston, Is anybody out there Come in Houston.

Have you checked the numbers visiting the WSO Section? Steady steady STEADY DECLINE!

The forum has also dropped it's Alexa ranking for the first time since I've been a member here as well. Not a good sign. I think every one has moved to Facebook.

      Hey Russ,

I checked out your video and that's a pretty sweet plugin you have going. I know your plugin records the number of calls it has processed but will it record the actual conversation? If not, can a twilio number or any other system that lets you record the conversation be used to redirect the call to the SBO? Could it also be used on mobile sites?

      Thanks,

just go with the dirty dozen, sounds cool.

Anyway the loss of forum functions with the new spring clean and paint do not help for friendly use, add that to the ever increasing and blatant spam and it I suppose people will drop off. There was always spam but looking back the guys back then must have done a darn good job of cleaning the sheite.

The WSO section I would not know what happens there as I never if ever venture into those waters, but went for a quick peek and it is wall to wall shiny objects that offer more hope than a turn of the century wild west snake oil salesman, complete with monkey and organ grinder. People will always buy dreams I suppose and good luck to those who do find that elusive golden nugget.

Maybe we need a virtual stripper or the likes to run across the forum and wake the crowd from falling deeper into the land of slumber and nod.

I believe if not wrong it is an icon to the right of a post title in a forum that sat next to the tags logo ? would need to verify the location

With this issue we have an icon which is displayed on the left hand side of the thread lists.
It indicates that you have posted in this thread.

That star does NOT always show.

From what i have noticed it appears "the more views and posts " a
thread gets - the less chance that star icon works.

If you mouse over the thread icon it does give you a mouse over text saying you posted.

I'm thinking the other icons may override the icon with the star.
We'll take a look at the priorities of these icons and how they are set up.

Hey guys, since you're asking, can you do something about the button that I can click to go to the last unread post (or maybe just the last post entirely). Anyway, it currently looks like > on my phone and it is nearly impossible to click. It once was a larger icon that was easier to click. Of course, now that button only goes to the first post in the thread anyway so it is useless, but at one point it was the best way to view any thread. Just click that icon, which was bigger and easier to click, and boom, right back in the discussion.

If you could fix the star thing, that would definitely better. Although to be honest the icons are so similar it doesn't really matter. I might not be able to see it at all. Before it was VERY evident the threads you had participated in. I can barely see that functionality now.

I think because of the nature of the way this business is approached, a sticky at the top of the forum with curated posts is really necessary. That's what we were talking about. I've seen some good curated lists on this forum before, but nothing has ever gotten a sticky. I'd argue that because this field is so concrete and finite it deserves an All-in-one sticky at the top of the forum. But that's obviously a choice you guys should make.

As far as some of the other things that are causing this forum to die, I'm just not sure as administrators there is much you can do, it's kind of up to us as participants to contribute in a way that helps the forum grow.

The star icon indicating my participation does not show on new posts i.e. when the talk bubble is red and not grey you cannot see if it is a thread you are participating in.

As soon as I post a reply and someone replies after me, that thread does not show the star indication that I posted in the thread.

As soon as I read the latest post and there are no new ones, the star is visible on the grey talk bubble. But since it is grey I know there are no new posts or activity since my last visit to the thread.

We need to see the star indicator on threads with new posts so we can return and see the new activity. But as soon as there is new activity on a thread you are participating in the talk bubble turns read and the star disappears.

Undermining the ability of people in a forum to participate in ongoing discussions defeats the whole purpose of a forum and I believe that is the number one reason for the decline.

Most of the other design decisions are poor (as indicated by previous posters) but I think taking away the ability to continue a conversation is the number one forum killer.

Nathan,(* Iamnameless *) is his name and he is greatly missed. As our many, many other members. Whether they were liked or not, most had a tremendous amount of input, advise and guidance to new members. Now, not so much. Heck, even just watching (reading) members like AB come in and try and wreck the place, then reading what happened when he did, was worth the time reading it all!

I don't post in here. I used to come here to learn from, what I felt, were people of caliber, who had "been there, done that", now I scan the threads here and there and just see people struggling.

What's most disturbing is even when the members who really do know, and want to help take the time to post and educate, it often goes unnoticed. I'd bow out too.

To those of you that made a difference here, Thank You, I learned so much.

Sadly, this is no cycle. This is mismanagement by freelancer.

Now, I'm sure they aren't 100% at fault, I've gone in a few threads, actually quite a few threads recently and was typing a response and before hitting the submit button, decided what's the point? Why waste the time? Yeah it's already typed out but then I'm going to have to come back and explain something someone takes the wrong way, and why bother?

As for the activity or lack of activity... couple things that lead to this issue. Adding new forums, adding images on the forum index page, changing forum order. The biggest blow was the decrease in forum titles above the fold. The Offline forum was one of the top forums in order but since freelancer wants to see a success in newer forums they changed the ordering up.

I'm actually surprised no one was fired for this. It's been a measurable bust so far, as far as an acquisition goes. I'm sure Alaister has a bit of pressure on him right now, and rightfully so. Since May of this year, search traffic has dropped by 35%(even though alexa has it as a 16% drop). That's huge, and of course is just an estimate based on the tools I have at my disposal, which is usually pretty accurate.

Alexa rank, which is usually kind of useless to judge a site by, has rapidly dropped. How quickly it has dropped is very worrisome.

Freelancer has managed to add some useful things to the forum. They've been able to improve some stuff. Isn't it funny how forums work? Improvements can cause a loss in membership.

The forum index though... how awful. Take a look at it.... you see the top user panel, an ad, the main internet marketing forum with a big now hiring image for people in australia when the USA and India are the top location specific demographics for the forum. Followed by the freelancer.com discussion and big wso images. WAMA section which is just about useless.

Maybe we can turn it around, but a lot of good people seem to have left. Boring topics lately and I haven't felt like contributing much either. Miss the good conversations and flame wars lol.

I do predict by this time in 2016 there will be a 50% decline in overall forum activity. I've considered starting my own, but it's expensive in terms of time invested, and a little bit in server cost.

            • Thanks for your time and input Iamnameless.

now, will they listen to their customers, and the #'s ???

we really invest our money, and our time, in people.... not acquisitions, stocks, companies, or ideas

              they can do it.

              I hope they do

You're right on here - especially where I bolded. If I were somebody new, or someone who did not visit often, I would not think this forum offered much. Those images in the index area tooooo large.

I think one of the huge issues with the redesign of the forum is I can no longer see which threads I've posted on, to see if someone has continued a conversation I was involved with. Now you're asking me to remember what threads I've contributed to, that's just not happening. That is a HUGE design flaw, and one they should fix immediately.

It's been disappointing watching the knowledge level of the forum go down rather than up. Most of the conversations have been about beginning level stuff. I've been here since 2006, doing marketing consulting since then, and it's still the same questions. Where are the entrepreneurs that are struggling to get from $150-200k to $1M in sales? Those are the people I'd like to brainstorm with. We have no idea if people have succeeded or not, or what they are doing, because most people with any real experience just disappear off of the board. There are maybe 6-10 people that I find interesting, and many of the more interesting posters are just gone. We're missing the Dexx's, Andrew Cavanaugh's, Michael Hiles, of the active forum of just 3-4 years ago. There are maybe a dozen accomplished veterans that are imparting their wisdom, and the rest are people asking the same questions.

The WSO forum is dead as far as offline material goes. There used to be a WSO of the day with offline material. That's now dead in the water, and when is the last time you saw an offline WSO end up as WSO of the day. In the top 3 pages of WSO's, there are exactly 2 WSO's right now (12pm on Tuesday Nov 4th). Go back two years(page 205 in WSO forum), and there were 9 WSO's in one page, versus 2 in three pages. And honestly the ones that are selling look dead in the water as well, they aren't getting much traction, and I would guess not many are buying.

I think the forum is too convoluted, and hard to find anything. There's no sticky at the top of start here- with the best forum posts. If I was a new member and I wandered into this forum thinking where could I find information on what this offline marketing thingie is all about, I wouldn't have a clue of what to look at. How do you know what to look at, where to start, who to listen to, etc.

Making money "offline" has lost a little bit of it's shine. It's not sit in your underwear and just print money. It takes work, it takes growth, it's not as easy as the WSO's have made it out to be. I also think it's fairly difficult to make it offline without some cash. $1,000 invested well should be enough. But $100 probably isn't going to do it. And ideally you'd probably want $5-10k. No one wants to hear that though. And what people REALLY don't want to hear is that you have to sell. That you can't really sit behind your computer and make money doing this. The real money is made on the phone or belly to belly.

I find it disappointing that almost all of the talk on the forum is about how to get clients, and very little is about how to deliver platinum quality service to those clients. Why is the huge topic, what are the clients that have $1,000+ transaction values. Why isn't what are all of the ways we can help our clients more popular? This business is stupid simple. Find out what people want, need and will pay for. Find out how to deliver that, and then get paid. Instead most people ask, how can I shove more mobile websites down peoples throats? First become valuable, and then you can get paid your value, that's the way it works.

I don't know that I agree that the forum being buried down the page really matters THAT much. People who want to find it will find it regardless. But it's entirely possible.

I'm not sure THIS particular forum ever recovers, it may just die quietly in the night. But it was fun while it lasted, so good job Andrew. I'm sure you've created many wealthy families from just one post on the forum.

                Just my two cents

I did not even realise that was missing but looking at the suggestions thread as well, so far we have.

                  + spam up 10 fold

This would be like taking a large city, then changing the location of all major services / buildings, then wiping half of the phone book / street directory out, taking down every street sign in the city, disconnecting the traffic lights and then setting up huge road blocks and causing diversions from all main highways.

Now to add to this chaos the spammers are running riot in the streets looting and plundering all decent threads / posts brining the city to it's knees and all decent folk are huddled up inside waiting for the madness to stop, or packing bags and searching for / moving to a new city that is in order.

I think the bigger issue beyond what the new owners have or not done here,
is that marketers have engaged with people better with their blogs, paid memberships,
                    private forums and Facebook groups.

Those that do it who are incentized by profit
tend to do a better job compared to volunteers like we are here.

Well not sure what banner ad you seen (or was it a post) but since yesterday / after I read this I am guessing they changed something with the top banner ads as I no longer see it all and all i get is white space, This is using ie 9 and if I select the small view all banner ads in the top right i get redirected back to the wso page from the banner page, So I gues who ever made some changes did not check those changes in ie ?

I also have chrome running and if i switch over to chrome everything works properly, but alas for those still on ie it is a snow storm of white?

Edit was going to attach the image but forgot that was / still is, seems broken ?

Nah. there's still some "make $4k in the next 2hrs" idiocy going on in the banner rotation. It's working.

Because that's what any aspiring or old marketer needs to come up with new ways to milk them money machines! Gotta love that kind of perfect matching of itch and scratch.

To join the chorus, I'm annoyed they removed the easy way to know if a discussion you were interested in had new comments. Or that email alerts come days late.

Or that Mike Hiles has not provided a proper disquisition on how bullet bracelets help one leverage one's skill into a system that can be to acquire shares of successful businesses and not merely SEO their site for 13.7 long-tail keywords.

Jeez, Alexa ranking down another 20 points since this thread started. I know Alexa isn't the end all be all of traffic stats but it is a little disconcerting to see a continual drop in traffic.

Yeah I've always found Alexa to be a bad way to gauge traffic on a website. BUT... once a website has already been established as long as WF has, and has consistently ranked high in Alexa....such a drop is a big deal.

Don't we have to be careful that we're self-fulfilling the prophecy? By talking continuously about how the neighborhood is going down hill, aren't we prolonging and perpetuating that?

Maybe we shouldn't talk about it anymore. Because those less committed might get discouraged by everyone crying fire.

That's a fair point and can't say I necessarily disagree with it. However, if a neighborhood is going down hill we have property values at stake so we would be more inclined to make it better, or sell before it gets worse.

I have respect for what freelancer is trying to do. I think they've added some really great features in such a little amount of time. Look at warrior payments, that's something that hasn't ever been implemented before and they did it with full functionality in a matter of months.

They are very responsive towards the community, but the bad thing is it is selective responsiveness.

I tried giving some advice, because in the past I ran a few forums that I sold, and every one of them died out. I have witnessed first hand when ownership changes which things start happening that kill the community.

Warrior Forum is strong enough to survive mistakes they make along the way, but their real threat is a loss in market share. The community is too large to just all of a sudden die out.

I would think that they are concerned about the loss in traffic, rapidly decreasing alexa rank, decrease in SEMrush search traffic value, and the decrease in new threads being posted throughout the forum. An easy to fix mistake is the home page.
