Round 2 - Door hangers and SMS

Thanks all for your help with my last thread. Here's what I'm thinking for the restaurant...
  • Door hangers with a coupon/deal on them hung in the richer neighborhoods still within a stone's throw from the restaurant.
  • Looking into SMS/text messaging deals to loyal clients/new sign-ups (got the idea from Warrior jamesfreddyc.)

Still also liking flyers on windows. It's a pizza place and competing online with the giants is just throwing money away - I gotta get in people's faces!

  • You can go to companies which are already spending heavily on advertising,
who have your clients ideal customers and offer
whatever deal they can offer to their customers.

Your client can offer a better deal now because
    he has no advertising costs.

The advertiser now has a better offer to advertise.

    • So the equivalent to using Spyglass on a competitor's backlinks. Just steal what they have and cut in line when the customer walks up?

It could work, but in this instance, the restaurant has no real comp in the area. It really suffers from poor location within an amazing neighborhood.

  • PBMax,

1000 years ago, I managed an independent pizza restaurant so I might be able to offer some suggestions.

In regard to door hangers, they will work and the returns are pretty predictable once you get some experience with them. Are you also putting these offers on the delivery/carry-out boxes? Keeping the current customer's coming through the door is much easier than getting new ones. Current employees are usually the best candidates for hanging them, at least to start out. I used to have delivery drivers come in an hour or two early and hit some local neighborhoods. Pointing out the benefit to them of more orders in a more concentrated area which equals more tips per hour usually did the trick

I'm certain that text marketing would work well with this market, but have not had direct experience with it. Have a look at your PM's and I can offer some help getting text marketing setup for you.

  • Wanna talk about innovative pizza marketing?

Two brothers in Eagleton CO (?) opened a pizza joint and was doing great until Domino's came to town and put a full-page ad in the Yellow Pages. The brothers couldn't afford a similar page, so they came up with this ad: "One-half off our pizzas if you bring in a Domino pizza Yellow Page ad" Wasn't long before all the Domino Yellow Page ads were ripped out of every phone book in town!
