Locked in my FIRST CLIENT! But.....

Quick question...

What do you guys do to track profitability in someone's website, through means of SEO? I don't know if my client feels comfortable tracking phone calls through a call tracker

How do I know if his website is making him money?

Honestly without tracking its really really hard to prove ROI.

Trust me, no matter what the client tells you they don't always
ask where the phone call came from AND if they do and the
prospect they are on the phone with can just lie about it if they don't
want to admin they found them on Google.

They must track and if they won't they need to understand that
they won't get accurate data no matter what they think.

Gratz on your first client as well!

    Nice job...

Like Rus said, without tracking it's going to be difficult to know.

You should definitely setup analytics so you can monitor traffic, also if you set up a contact/estimate form on the website, you can store entries in the database so you can see how many people have filled out the form, but that's not really the best way to gauge success.

What industry is this client in? If it only takes one new customer a month to have an ROI then it's worth it for him.

In short.... how can you tell if the website is making him money.... he keeps paying you, and even that is flawed!

  • Hey thank you guys. It's been a year or so of studying and a few months implementing.

Nathan, without you even knowing, you changed my business and my life. I read your WSO, and normally I don't buy into them... but man, it was awesome. After a year of learning, it was time to start implementing.

I've been taking a HUGE learning curve by learning web design, web development, SEO, Sales, and Marketing.

And now I feel super confident in my sales.

    But I digress.

Yes, the client can make enough in one or two sales. He does Pressure Washing, and clients range from $200-$1,000 in Residential

and $1,000-$10,000 in commercial, fairly easy. There are even $40k-$100k deals in the mix as well, but consistently he can sell higher ticketed items based on his sub niches.

So ROI is not the issue... I suppose just tracking the ROI is what I'm concerned with... How do I know if he's making money in the campaign?

Wow, what a testimonial there, lol. I'm glad it's helped you...that was the goal. Awesome to see you've been able to put your knowledge to use and get your first client.

Him not wanting to do call tracking, is usually a sign of not caring enough to track ROI in the first place. That's not a YOU problem, that's a problem on his end. If you're confident in your abilities, and skills, I have no doubt that you will provide an ROI for him.

What matters is that he sees enough value in this to continue paying you on a monthly basis!

Also important is to ride the momentum of a sale into another sale. This is the best time to beef up your efforts since your confidence is higher.

      • Yeah man, use it for your WSO. Like I said, I can't stand buying those things, because everyone gets the shiny object syndrome.

But it was pure value, and it just doesn't get better than that.

And for sure... I feel extremely confident I'll get to 10k a month in just a few months.

I just have to learn the tidbits here and there that the customer will expect, and what to expect from good/bad customers as I go.

  • I could see tracking PPC a whole lot easier... but even then...

I should have thought about this before making the sale.... lol

What exactly did you sell him? Doesn't sound like it was just a website.

I have found that the people in the "office" don't really care, and few really track where sales come from.....JMO

I like call tracking programs, you don't need a fancy one - it shows your client that you did (hopefully) bring in the business

sometimes client will also see the "office" staff is negligent in the way they answer phones....if they sound bored, uncaring....oh well..

in marketing we bring in the leads we don't close them - sometimes the client can rightfully understand and correct that haha

There is a round about way to do a bit of tracking without a track caller. if you are to make the phone number a "link" in all locations you can use Google analytics tools and set each location as a "GOAL". This way at the very least you can "Track" any time a mobile user may use the number to call.

I have actually split test this concept on a mobile site vs desktop only site, and the number of press' on a desktop site were very minimal, so it can give you a decent amount of reliability In tracking.

      Hope that Helps!

      • It certainly helps on Mobile...

And what I'll do is when my client receives a "RFQ" (Request for Quote), I'll make a dummy email that will receive the quote form as well and I'll check once a month when I send him his monthly report.

        RIGHT ON!

You can evaluate the effectiveness of seo using google analytics which will tell you which search terms have converted.

  • Man, I didn't even know a plugin like that existed until you mentioned it Savidge.

I'm on onboard after reading the features, FOR SURE.

    That's awesome!

Does it only work with wordpress though?

  • I figure it was worth a shot to ask, even though as I'm reading now, it says "WP" call conversion...

    -_-

    Hi Luis,

Could your client be persuaded to get a second phone number? And only advertise that number on the website? That way he'd know all the calls that came directly AND indirectly from the website. eg, happy customers passing on his details who wouldn't have done so if they hadn't found him via the website in the first place....

It could easily be done with a free phone number or non geographic number (which he could easily track as he'd get the bill!) or just a simple pre pay mobile....
