You just bought your first Direct Mail list from a broker, do you sell or offer a freebie?

Just wondering if its like IM where you offer a freebie to opt in for and keep their names so you can promote to them over and over. Or make your offering straight away, with less names to keep but immediate sales with an all buyer list?

It's a buyers list from a UK company called Hilite of people who have bought bizopp/anti establishment products in direct mail before, spending between £20-300.

My product is a 10 month, monthly installment course that talks about how to set up an IM business, and alongside it how to stay low profile in a world where the authorities are trying to get a piece of you.

How is it done in your circles?

There is no way to offer advice based on what you have told us. What kind of list is it? Is it a compiled list? A list of buyers?

      What do you sell?

Thank you for the request of clarification:

I've amended the OP with this information.

There is no such thing as a free offer with direct mail and people know that. When was the last time you received a 100% free offer? never.

There's buy 1 get 1, trial offers, etc. but never completely free. Why? because it's ridiculous to think that a guy should spend the money on a list, printing, mailing...then have a free offer where there is absolutely no chance to get a sale on the first point of contact.

Think your question through a little better and the answer is quite obvious.

        Sell them

Edit: re-read the OP. Offer a month free trial, take CC information, setup the card to bill in 30 days. And don't use the quote "how to stay low profile in a world where the authorities are trying to get a piece of you" - It sounds like you're selling a program on how to cook meth.

It's my own product but it is rather Stuart Goldsmith-esque, but with my own versions of business creation (IM & trading), and my own directions about the societal matrix.

Yeah, I would just pitch my product. And let them know that you are aware that they have bought a similar offer before. Maybe say "This is an advanced program, prepared especially for people that have already invested in information on new opportunities. This is the next level...The Highest Level"....something like that. It fits you right into their sense of continuity.

In other words, what they bought before is step one. This is the second half of what they need. The advanced information.

As Claude Whitacre says, just pitch it. There's no point in renting a list of proven buyers and then not trying to sell anything to them - it misses the point.

Also, have a look at how Vince Stanzione builds his list through a combination of direct mail pitches, and his enquirers adverts - they're usually in The Sunday Times, etc (it's the one for fintrader.net). You'll need your own list of enquirers and rented lists of buyers for it to work best.

You can get even more pople list asking those buyers to show the product to their relatives and so on. Ask your buyers what would they like to be in next upgrade of product?

There are so many ways you can approach to your buyers and co-workers etc.
