Did Grant Cardone go too far in this interview? He's getting shredded in the comments.

Or is it tough love?

Grant Cardone just parrots other people - he doesn't actually have any original information.

I worked at a car dealership where the entire crew idolized him, but his advice is just common sense, or mediocre techniques used by standard car salesmen - there's really nothing special about him.

If his products were priced well I could understand and be cool with what he does, but he milks products for as much money as he can, while making no effort to provide exceptional quality - he's all about money and getting for himself - he's a showman and textbook sociopath.

As a sociopath, he posts this thinking he looks powerful and successful in negotiating, but because he lacks the ability to understand empathy, he fails to see how this makes him look selfish and arrogant stomping on someone's life.

He can say the words of empathy in his programs, but his actions don't match his words, and fails to realize he has probably taken advantage of people just as badly, but judges someone else for it just because they're weaker than him. It's just disgusting.

It's good tv which is what they were going for.

Remember, Grant Cardone isn't teaching you sales, he is selling you.

And what in the world was the kid thinking going on the show when he owed them the money?

Like all reality TV, my guess is it was partly real and partly staged, to what degree I don't know.

Obviously Cardone had it planned out. Unless that kid is the next Tom Hanks, he didn't know what was coming.

I hope the kid disputes the charge....what a nasty man. 8k for his "university"?? Delusionial

Nasty. Googled.....a Scientologist no less....he would be good at bossing peons around the "sea org" deal or whatever.

Sell a glass of water? I would throw it at this fool...how many times did this classless fool say the f word? Is the "secretary" his mistress or what? Yuck

Actually, if you had someone who owed you money, and they came in for a job, That's the way to get the money. Cardone set it up with "are you a man of your word", and asking how much was available on the cards. Then he got the guy to hand him the cards. pretty hard core, but it worked.

If you are going to collect money, that's how to do it. Cardone went a little overboard at the end. Maybe for the camera.
He should have had the kid sign the receipt, before he did the "sell me the glass of water" thing.

The reason he told the kid that he couldn't sell, was to see how the kid responded. A strong response probably would have got him the job. A smart person wouldn't have been there for the interview (after owing Cardone money), A strong person wouldn't have given Cardone the cards. And a person with character would have paid for what they bought.

I wouldn't have put it on the web though.

True....but really he came off like a classless jerk IMHO.

Selling some of this crap to people is like being a drug pusher IMHO>>> $8000 for your sales "university"?? Ugh

No the kid wasn't very bright but really he seemed like he had problems....broke but chasing dreams. The way a drunk keeps drinking, a junkie keeps going after drugs. Gamblers get in debt, go over their limit, lie and steal to support their habit. Chasing dreams can be a strong drug too - and someone like Cardone knows this IMHO

I thought the whole thing was just disgusting all around.

I saw this and was stunned. I'm still not sure if I like it or hate it. It kind of rubbed me the wrong way that it was posted on youtube for shock value, especially when in his tv show, when he condemned someone for using shock to sell Cardone's products.

I think he also, has the price tag for his university at 8k so that when he lowers it to 2-4k it sounds like a bargain.

Wow, that guy is the biggest douchebag I've ever seen. I can't believe I just watched that. I would never go to him to learn anything. I'd rather be a poor guy than learn from a guy like him how to shake people down for money by publicly shaming them. Grant even said that he himself had made stupid money mistakes in life when he was younger. Where's the video of someone trying to shake him down publicly?

Grant acted like an a**, BUT he has a point... He's holding customers liable for stuff they ordered and received and decided not to pay for it - that's theft of services. Yes guys, you do need to be held responsible for not paying you're bills. Not Grant's fault the guy stiffed him..Businesses have expenses and costs, they ain't running a non-profit organization.

Obviously, posting it on youtube was done in very bad taste, but if the guy had the balls to apply for a job at the same company he ripped off - they deserve to get their money.

I was listening to some info yesterday from a top guy who'd hired over 1000 sales people on Chet Homes, course, so he's no bum, and he said they do this kind of thing to find the top people who won't fold and when you tell them they can't sell they get even more determined.

This though, was a bit more than that. The guy at the end was impressed with his responses, but obviously if Grant did this for some kind of sadistic power trip, it's obviously because he is a dick for being so arrogant he thinks his followers would be impressed.

I couldn't stand the guy for a long time but then watched a vid about how to do a great elevator pitch and I thought whatever I thought about this brash, obnoxious guy, he could teach me a few things nonetheless. His material is actually intelligent and good stuff, considering how he comes across.

Like someone said though, he is building his cult following.

I wasn't clear enough about what I meant.

More clearly, I mean he is using the same tactics all great cult leaders use to build a cult of personality, where the kind of people who need to belong to something and have an idol to worship gravitate. This is above and beyond just wanting to build a name for himself as a great sales trainer, which his is.

For example, one guy in the comments sections on youtube said he used to listen to 10x everyday but after seeing this he'd never listen to Cardone again. How completely ridiculous is that. To be swayed and follow someone based on their personality only, and how you think they should be and will throughout anything else the person taught after, no matter how great it was.

These people are commonly referred to as sheep. They follow people on their cult of personality rather than the truth or sense in what they say.

Cardone seems to be looking for those kinds of people to build a cult following of people who buy his stuff. To build a cult of personality around himself, rather than his training at times.

I differentiate from others doing the whole personal branding thing where it's more about the knowledge they are selling, like Ryan Diess or someone.

Cardone is using the tactics of a politician or despot figures alot. Or I recognize them as that.

I don't care if he's an dick, or a scientologist or whatever. I listened to his 10x after seeing this and it's classic. That has nothing to do with his personality.

But I think he is aware of the cult of side of things and taps into that. I couldn't stand the guy the first few times because of that, but then i heard what he had to say properly and realize beyond the image is a guy who has tremendous knowledge and some great things to teach. But I never will be 'a follower'. And seeing one is sad. Some well known teachers who have build a heard or a cult, won't have service certain people, like Frank Kern saying he doesn't want get rich quick Internet Marketing biz oppers. But others are only to happy to target them.

  • I could be wrong...

But I think the whole gig was set up.

For some kind of effect (how to get paid, make sure you get paid, if you don't pay you have no integrity etc, etc.).

It's unlikely you could grab the entire course without paying.

If you had, would you really be applying for a job at the company?

And it's a bit of a stretch for a full film production team to be in place (without knowing in advance what was going to happen).

The beleaguered "thief" was way too calm, controlled and "scripted" (good acting).

Even the secretary played to the camera's (if the situation was "real" she probably wouldn't have).

And Cardone does have his own team role play various scenarios for YT videos.

I think it was genuine. Cardone knew the kid was coming in, and found out that he was owed money. I think the whole setup was "Watch how I get him to pay me".

Lots of people shut down, when they are confronted. Of course, it could have all been a set up. But what Cardone did actually works, and the responses were right.

I should say that for decades, one of my unpleasant jobs was repossessing vacuum cleaners, that the people weren't paying for....or that a dealer was trying to keep, after he quit.

What Cardone showed was actually pretty advanced skills at collecting a dept. Being harsh stunned the kid. There was no time to create a response. And he was already trapped (cards out, Cardone holding them, admitting he had the credit to pay)

Either that or he is an actor. I'd say either of those options could be equally true. And yes, Cardone threw such a fit about how he doesn't want people like him selling to others, and what do you know, two weeks later is in a new video, he's getting ready to sell to Grant's prospects.

I've always wondered if Cardone payed his sales staff 100% commission. It seems like a high priced product that he could pay super high commissions on. It also doesn't hurt that there are big margins.

I have a lot of friends that produce reality TV. It's much more scripted than people think. They don't tell the contestant what to say exactly, but they pull them aside and coach them. Most participants go along. My guess is a producer told this guy to "hang in there" even if it gets rough.

But his awkwardness was real. Heck, I still sell that way.

What's interesting about Cardone is he is using his wealth and visibility to create an entertainment network. Take a look at all the programs they have here:

    http://witnation.com/shows/

He owns hundreds of millions worth of real estate in Florida, which he bought at the bottom of the downturn so I'm sure he made out well. He doesn't need these web reality shows to be big hits.

    http://therealdeal.com/miami/blog/20...l-estate-push/

In a sense, he's duplicating what Trump is doing at the network level. Web-based reality shows like Whatever It Takes don't have near the reach of NBC, but the technology is changing fast, web/mobile viewing is on the rise and he is positioning himself to be a "new media" player.

One takeaway is you could do the same thing. Now is the time to start a podcast or video series in your niche. Become the "go to" source, the most trusted voice in your area. That content will become more and more valuable as the lines between TV and digital continue to blur.

In fact, I said years ago WF should create a video training platform like Udemy. I predict they will continue to expand their interview series and eventually become a network with shows much like Cardone has done.

Then again, I've been wrong before. I voted for Dewey over Truman in 1948.

At this age and stage of his life cardone is done building new real world businesses so he got into teaching. He's a good and real world sales man with great confidence though.

Way better then internet marketers who said they are multi millionaires and still selling 10$ products all day everyday.

I bet the kid will never stiff anyone again.

Maybe Cardone called him off camera and told him that it was for his own benefit. At the end he did say "you're only stiffing yourself" which is true.

or it was all a set up.

Eh, wasted too much time on this already !

Cardone has backpedaled over and over again on what he has promised. First, he constantly says the price of his products will change today or in a few hours, creating false scarcity to get sales. Nothing but lies.

Over three hours of a four hour webinar he sold, was just an upsell for a $1000 product, not providing what he promised. And now all the people he promised to be in the drawing for a flight on his plane, so they would mass push his products on social media, were jipped out of their chance to win at the last minute. Unless of course, if you bought the $1000 upsell. Then you could get what you were originally promised.

I used to be a fan and look to Cardone as a mentor, but honestly, he's only interested in how he can extract ever single possible dollar from you. What's funny is when he bashes people like Belfort, for being a fraud, and deservedly so, yet pulls just as sketchy shit.

I think that Cardone and Belfort both have some good content to learn from. I have been knocking around buying the Straight Line System, but I just feel that buying a product that benefits a swindler of this magnitude is a bad idea. Belfort has a real creep factor that I can't get past.

I know that as business people we should be able to assess the content and not get caught up in the personality or antics of the presenter, but in some cases, I'm not a big enough man.

They definitely do both have great content. Now I know how slimy Cardone is, but it doesn't change the fact that a lot of what he says is on point.

And as for Belfort, I completely understand your sentiment as I feel the same. However, I got mine for free and you can also get a used copy pretty cheap on ebay. You'll probably like it, but maybe not.

Also, this kid that was in the OP's video is working for Cardone in another video. So who knows if this is even real or not.

Recently, I almost signed up to Cardone University for my staff. I've listened to all of Grant's Audio books and I've combed through a lot of his material. The only issue for me is that his personality is a bit too loud for me at times. I don't know about everyone, but I really have to be in the mood for his loud brash personality. Even when in the mood for good content, I won't open his emails, because frankly, It's exhausting!
