Marketing for Plumber

Anyone have experience in marketing a plumber? I checked adwords CPC is like $30 lol. Any tips appreciated.

Also on a side note does YP have any algorithm or how do they rate who gets listed at the top? Same with yelp?

Yeah, they have an algorithm. it's pretty simple.
Pay them, and they will increase your position.

the biggest impact - easiest thing you can do for pretty much any trade client you may have is working on their local listing. This article: Issue 1: Why It's Ranking, 7 Pack Analysis - Income Bully throws what I think many of us would consider a pretty decent sized market / high competition market under the magnifying glass and points out great potential in getting a better than decent listing. And its not just that one example... he has more recent articles there that display the same type of errors over and over.

This would be where I would start that is for sure!

Whatever media you use, this money getter is what should be modelled.

Ever hear of Dan Kennedy's 'Al The Plumber' story?

I'm going to say you haven't...

It can be found in his book, My Unfinished Business pages 382-386. I suggest you get a copy.

Also, I was able to find his story online here: http://www.dankennedywebsite.com/lesson6.htm

The biggest take away from that article I got... and it is actually something I use... "ever place there's a pipe, there's a sticker." This is HUGE.

I never understand why people always want to work with doctors, lawyers, plumber, photographers etc..
I think no more then 30 niches i've ever heard here people talking about all the time.

No wonder they all too saturated and guys here starting threads saying how to sell free leads when no body wants to take them or even talk on phone.

Another great marketing tip for plumbers or almost any other trade is to talk to any other trades that you happen to be working around and network with them.

I work in construction and am around different trades everyday and little things like lending a hand to carry something heavy, taking off a piece of trim so the electrician or plumber can access an area, lending tools so they don't have to run back to their truck, maybe even putting your company info on small tools like utility knives, rolls of tape, safety glasses, etc. and giving them to other trades would go a long way.

It's not that I'm trying to target plumbers it's that I have a friend who needs some help so I'm looking at options for him

Also are you guys suggesting old marketing is better than Internet marketint for plumbers? Looks like most of what you guys have said is related to direct mail and the actual yellow pages

This is the Offline section. There are specific forum sections that cater to PPC, SEO and general Internet Marketing for all sorts of niche markets.

...just go up one level to the main WF page to seem them all.

I suggested to a client he adapt that Yellow Pages ad for
      his electrician client.

He then put it on Craigslist.

Resulted in a $20,000 extra monthly income stream for his client.

Once you have a proven ad in one media you can take it into another.

This means you can take that ad, swap out the image, phone numbers, logos
and badges for his own and he's got his own proven to work ad.

      No guess work.

In fact I'm foolish for not licensing it out to plumbers.

Better grab it before I come to my senses.

Make sure that you have a great landing page and spend the $30 a click. PPC is where you'll get a great deal of NOW buyers and emergency calls. This equals big tickets. Yelp is a massive waste of time in my experience. I just bought out one of my competitors and they were spending $400 a month on YP online. It produces nothing. Another company that I bought in 2009 spent $900 a month on a yellow page ad, crickets. Be sure to test out offers and layout before you spend a dollar on a yellow page ad. Just having an ad does pretty much nothing. Personally, I have a local home services business and a YP ad is the last place that I'd put money.

Craigslist is definitely a platform people turn to when looking to make a quick decision or need an emergency service such as plumbing. It's essential to do some competitive analysis to make sure you match the daily posting frequency of the competition. That way, your ad stay visible all throughout the day. Also important to keep the ad concise for Craigslist visitors who are in scan mode.
