Doggy Mail-Order Catalog: Could this be your last?

Yesterday, I got a catalog in the mail, addressed to me, with nothing but dog products (beds, toys, food dishes, crates, harnesses, shirts, treats, blah blah blah).

Yes, I have a dog, so it makes sense they mailed it to me but... on the back under their return address it says:

"Could this be your last catalog?"

"YES!! Unless you order soon! Sorry, rising paper and postage costs mean that we can only mail catalogs FREE to readers who buy."

So, what do you think of this???

I think they're shooting themselves in the foot because... this is the first time I've ever seen this catalog or heard of this company, and they're going to do "one-and-done" type marketing??! Maybe I won't buy now, but tomorrow's a different day.

And, I have bought from catalogs before...

Ouch...so many former mail order catalogs are gone - now just online

I do remember when they would put the old "haven't heard from you, could be your last" but usually when it was like months between orders for actual former clients

Mail order is IMHO hard these days and this company may be very strapped - just a silly shoot self in foot move IMHO

Lots of companies large and small need some common sense IMHO

Like my dear late Father used to say "Common sense isn't very common anymore" LOL

I would be put off by the message personally, but that's just me. I don't think it is a good way to introduce their business to people. Sounds desperate and pushy, something I never respond too well to. Like Freebiequeen above, I thought of such tactics more as something you do after you send a few and establish, or try to establish, some sort of relationship. They came out swinging, and in my opinion they missed.

Hahahaha, Freebiequeen... I like that, "Common sense isn't very common anymore."

I hear ya, UMC. I just keep thinking... what in the world are they doing!!!

Like, I understand doing multi-step campaigns and giving notices (2nd notice, 3rd notice, final notice), but right off the bat... yikes!

Will Rogers quote - one of my favorites!

I've seen this on catalogs before and it does makes sense. For many years catalog companies sent a copy of seasonal catalogs to people who purchased only occasionally. Rising postage and printing costs make that impractical.

Now you are more likely to see print catalogs as IKEA sends them - go on their site and sign up to receive "a catalog". They won't keep sending them but you will get one if you ask.
