What to do if you get voicemail?

So you're calling businesses but no one answers the phone.

Should you leave a voicemail?

Maybe it depends on the niche if someone is available to answer the phone? I'm targeting contractors and I'm getting a lot of voicemail.

Maybe I should target businesses with a receptionist so more likely someone is available to answer the phone?

Larger contractors will have a receptionist or an answering service. Leave a 15 second voicemail. Or don't.

    Don't over think it.

Trades are working. They're under a house or up a ladder holding a drill in one hand and a cell phone in the other.

Call early in the morning or at lunchtime.

Say you know this is the only time they're free for a minute.

Don't try to have the conversation now; ask them when you should call back to talk.

The job of the first call is to set up a second call when they will be relaxed and not freaking out about the day.

Should I even leave a voicemail? or is it a complete waste of time?
I've been doing it but no one has called me back...yet.

I feel like I have to call them nonstop just to get someone to answer the phone.

Tradies are notoriously hard to catch as they work all hours and often don't answer the phone. Either leave a message or try them early in the morning.
