Sending email to all competitors in a local market?

Does anyone remember an WSO from a while back or perhaps a thread on the idea of sending an email to all competitors in a local market and either CC: them or list who the email was being sent to? Response is high because they want to get what you have and not let their competition have it.

This works best when you have something unique that only one of them can use like a ranked lead gen site in their local market.

I have a situation that might work well with this and want to test. I can write an email from scratch but always nice to see examples and what others are doing.

Thanks Ron

I dont know what wso you are referring to but I can tell you that I used a similar strategy via Direct mail when I first started a Digital Agency back in 2009.

Gosh that was 6 years ago.

Anyway, I simply wrote a sales letter (blind copy) and listed the competing businesses at the top of the letter. The aim was to get meetings and sell 1 of the prospects.

At the time it worked a treat and gave me 7 clients within 14 days. It really helped kick start my business at the time.

Not everyone calls back but when you call them they are more than willing to listen and call you in for a meeting.

The sale happens when someone has a fear of losing out to a close competitor. Of course you do still have to display how they will achieve an ROI if they take your service/product.

Not used this strategy in years as our business has moved on from needing to chase prospects for business.

Not sure if putting all email on an email would work as well in 2015 ...they might think you are pretty clueless as more biz owners have at least a simple grasp of email practices?

But yes....playing off "rivalry" is a good sales tool, especially if you have something that is one of a kind, neither one may really want it but they don't want the other to have it

I did this years ago selling spa/facial equipment to salons (before it moved to the net LOL)....salon owners often did not want their "rival" getting ahead of them

I also used this selling ad space in coupon mag - only one pizzeria can have that front cover

who is the "winner"? who will beat his "rival" ??

Thanks a partner is testing this type of scarcity and is getting good response. He's getting a much higher response to cold emails than other emails he is testing.

As has been said the offer needs to be real and important to tell then why the scarcity in a way that makes sense to them. No matter how jaded we become we still have the basic desire to do better and to beat our competition. If we can help them get an edge on them it's still an evergreen method of marketing.
