Some advice for a very few here.

There are 5 or 6 of you whom could benefit from this, or not.

Between 2000 and 2009 I did some very LOW cost consulting for scores of start-ups, the one man band types who wanted to start a business. The reason I did this was to "cherry pick" what I thought were good ideas by people committed to following through. I offered ongoing consultation for a small piece of the action.

Today those pieces range from 1.75 % up to 10% with just a little of time and attention. For some, I became a line item budget, an expense of doing business and at that point, I surrendered my position for ongoing payment via gift cards.

I haven't paid for a meal in years nor most gifts, all courtesy of work I did a decade ago.

Today, the quality of the WF isn't what it used to be (Opinion) and it is harder to find doers and serious folks who want to build a business and not just want to know how to make 100 bux.

Anyhoo, a few of you guys may want to consider a similar path, start to trade a little of your time and expertise for an ongoing stake in a few people's future.

With your help and guidance you could have several small pieces of lucrative pie paying you for years to come. Some might consider it bartering your expertise for a piece of the action, or however you want to consider it.

Of course, you need to pick good ideas with good people attached to them, but it is a long term "retirement" strategy which I think a few of you would really like and may want to embrace. Trade a little bit of your time and expertise for future dollars...may be considered a higher risk than taking the money today.

Example fr Off Line folks. We may read about an idea for a new way to get a business ranked high in search engines or an idea about a new advertising method or a community site...

IF you see a good idea here, you could reach out, if you have the expertise to help and offer some ongoing support in exchange for ongoing share.

Each deal is different.

In the cases where I'm getting a much smaller %, there is a tendency for the business to be bigger, and have more accountability which is required to be shared for the purpose of the commission. Other deals are simple arrangements, trust and confidence...but keep things on an even keel.

Helping other people win, and not spending much of your time to do it, in exchange for a piece of profits, give them your expertise to use, which they probably couldn't afford to buy...and you both win for the long haul.

Just some experienced advice, keep your money in your wallet, go the Dan Kennedy route, of 1000 bux is enough to learn something and if you hit oil, or gold, then let it pay you for years to come.

Of course, sme business models require more capital, but there are plenty of the low hanging fruit for you to pick, replant the seeds and help grow and nourish both of your futures. If you have 5 or more years left until retirement, start now to think of the future, cause it comes at you fast and furious.

I'd definitely give someone a stake in my company if they got me good calls.

I've been providing recurring commissions for the lives of accounts to anyone willing to build a customer base. I consider it passive revenue for sure and in fact I had a semi-retired gentleman working for me who recently quit to go travel a bit. He continues to recieve commissions to this day.

I'm perfectly fine with them being entirely agnostic to my business and have no preference for methods employed --- from creating an adWords campaign and inbound funnel or simply picking up the phone and making outbound sales.

That is I don't care if you are a marketing guru and willing to test your theories or if you've seen massive success building name brands in the marketplace ---- I've always provided the same recurring commissions to anyone.
