We all have been blessed by the god of sales himself of late. And as we all bow to the god of all wisdom in sales, I have to ask why some people have a need to feel important and to self title their position regardless.

Over you could say 40 years in sales and holding many titles, never once did I take them serious / blurt it out, and I still do not even though it would still be easy for me to do now.

What I have found in all of those years in general in working with many managers is those who self title and brag about, put it on their shirt like a badge of honour are for the best part the biggest dip shits who really bring nothing but a big noise to the table and often leave a bigger mess for those quiet ones to clean up once they have been replaced.

In some ways it seems like a power trip for them, I have this fancy title or I will claim the rights to the kingdom and pronounce myself the almighty one, and thoust shall all bow before me when i speak, while the quiet ones look around and just lower their eyes as they say "here we go again"

So are you the quiet one who achieves, and I bet we all know the local god of sales, and for those sales gods, what is that makes you tick ? are you so insecure that you need a big flashy title to your name to make you feel important, because with out it your a nobody ?

Anyway One thing for sure here, and that there are the real dealers, and any one that is the real deal can spot the fakers quicker than a morning yawn.

Regardless quiet or godlike it is entertaining here, reading the words of the chosen ones, it brightens my day and gives me a laugh.

I know it is probably not ever possible but I would love to work with some of these so called superstars for a few days, now that would be fun.

I'm not sure this applies precisely...but I've been thinking of this.

I used to speak to groups of salespeople. There were two different kinds of groups. People in the same industry, and people in the same company.

The industry groups were mostly made up of top achievers....partly because they paid their own way to the conference, and paid for their own ticket.

The company groups were made up of all the salespeople. Attendance was sometimes mandatory. In this group, in nearly every instance...there was this one guy.

He was the guy that had been there for years, and never achieved anything. He was barely hanging on. The only glory he had, was that he was on a good team.

But he bragged about everything he was going to do. If we were setting goals, his were always hundreds of times more than he ever made. If a top producer was getting an award, this guy would trash him/her. The best word to describe this attitude was bitter.

When he bragged about what he had done, it was never a sales result. He would talk about how many managers "He had seen come and go", or how long he had been "in this business". And he had tons of ideas about how things "should be done". Never something he should do, but how the company should supply him with better leads. He complained about customers and how stupid they were....how they weren't smart enough to buy from him.

And...as a speaker, to me he stood out like a sore thumb.

He would interrupt the talk, by saying things like, "That would never work", and "OK, it sounds great in theory, but our customers are different".

And...always...the inevitable,,,, "Those who can't do...teach". That's the one that angered me, because of the lack of awareness it showed.

But he never learned anything. He would be at the company for years, and not know the first thing about selling. The other reps avoided him, and rolled their eyes when he talked.

Sometimes, he was related to the CEO, and couldn't be fired. Sometimes he was strictly on commission, and so he cost the company nothing to keep around.

But the only people that would listen to him were the brand new people.

When I first started meeting these guys, I would wonder why they didn't try to help the new people...pass on what they knew. After all, part of bragging is showing what you know. (I speak as a seasoned braggart)

And then I realized that the reason they don't really offer to help...is that they don't know anything that they could teach. Simply complaining about how things are, and bragging about what you are going to do...putting down real achievers.....aren't teachable skills.

Anyway, for some reason, there are never two of these guys in a company...only one. And they are nearly always men. Weird.

I've done this dozens of times. In nearly every case, it was hugely profitable. Top salespeople love to learn from another top person, and share what they know. Watching a great salesperson make a sale, is almost as rewarding as making one myself.

I'm pretty good at getting attention arnt I?
The best way to get rid if someone like me is ignore me. But I see you went the route of further promoting me and for that I thank you. All publicity is good publicity. And like rush Limbaugh says. The ones that like me listen to me 2 hours a day and the ones that hate me listen to me 4 hours a day. And by me being on your mind enough to take time out if your day and write this article about me it looks like I'm makin progress and proving that true. The ones who get the most attention make the most money. Remember that.

Yes, you are. And I noticed that your diction has greatly improved. Your spelling, too!

It was in general and in regards to the many many people who self title as gods, and not specific to you, but I can understand how you like to feel it is all about you, but sadly it was not.

I like hiring the self titled peacocks who strut about ... not for their ability.
They annoy the quiet ones who in turn "prove themselves" by putting more
    on the board.

Currently we are building a national brand and we have one rule and that we have a hire no dick heads policy period.

What we have put into play is a personal challenge to people to self improve, so in short we will supply or give any sales person full support to learn, take on any method (within realistic reason) to improve themselves / gain personal improvement, and I think that improvement needs to be across all parts of their life to give balance to what they do.

We have also introduced a part where we take every effort to ensure our people are treated well, in that we pamper to a degree our people, we are experimenting with stacked kitchens where they can eat healthy foods, flexible with the way they improve as above and will pay to support that (and keep in mind this is personal improvement and no race against another), and help them with what ever they want, and probably no end we we won't go to to help and support these people.

We focus on creating an environment where they can earn a very good income and are always improving how we do that, and we quietly lead by example, where often I will do the lowly work of the broom sweeper.

We place a strong focus on their family life as well, and always insist they look after family before work especially if any one is unwell et. we really do care about them, and the list goes on.

It is not about what we take from these people but what we can give, I have worked for years with many swanker companies who for the best part abuse sales staff and treat them like shit and that now no longer happens, so it good in some way to be able to help implement this change for some.

We are at a point now where we have serious good talent starting to bang our door wanting into what we have started to create, but again it all stems back to the no dick head self titled swankers allowed, they don't even get in the door, we know for the best part they are full of shit.

Low stress buddy, I think there are many similar companies who adapt similar lines, and while I also see the other side and have worked in it for years, I suppose in a way it was related to the sales god image and how some companies move away from those type of people on the pay role.

On a place like this, if you don't attempt to make the 'authority play', (naming yourself an expert and making bold, hyperbolic statements being one way to (artificially) develop authority status, to varying degrees of success), you won't develop a following. Which means when your e-book and expensive membership programs is on the shelves, you won't get many takers.

It's part to do with the herd mentality built into the psyche of the vast majority of people, just as part of their personality to be a follower and partly because many beginners don't know better. Many need leaders and authority figures to follow regardless.

In my keen observation of this place, one that is more deregulated than other places making it ideal for frauds and the delusional, many would rather be conned by someone because the person has included the elements of Authority in their presentation or positioning, rather than acknowledge the unvarnished, straight truth from someone who hasn't

Like the SalesGod said, it's all about getting attention, any which way. It doesn't matter to him or others whether it's good or bad.

There's always people who are going to fall for it.

That may be true in the Main Forum, I don't know.

But honestly, there are real experts here. Real business owners, that really make a fortune in selling.

The frauds are spotted very quickly. It's the nature of selling, that you can't fake expertise. An expert salesperson will call you out here very quickly.

Sure there are followers here...wannabes. But there are a few of the real deal, that can spot a blowhard from a mile away. And fake sales results are the easiest to spot.
