WHAT..."Don't Buy This Jacket"?...Sales jump by 40%

It started back on Black Friday 2011 in the NY Times.

A big bold headline over the pic of a jacket,
stated Don't Buy This Jacket.

It's a brave campaign still used in 2015
to create a sustainable world by Patagonia.

The message is, think twice before buying it
because of the energy used to make it.

Further, the reader is asked to pledge an agreement to recycle it at
it's end of it's useful life.

The campaign has caused it to be written about more than once
in the NY Times and numerous other media outlets.

2 years after starting the campaign sales were up by 40%.

No signs of growth slowing in 2015 by telling people not to buy.

    Ewen,

What you need to explain is that this is not an isolated gimmick for selling a particular jacket but a company-wide commitment on the part of Patagonia. There is a philosophy that the company has committed itself to and lives by.

I just don't want people to get the idea that this is a one-off idea. If it were, it wouldn't have had the impact that it has actually had.

Perhaps like REI's decision to close on Holiday's and Black Friday...
