I don't agree with all these, however, worth thinking about:

    I have a different twist on things.

    My first impression I choose to make is...

    impress ME. They are the ones who need to make a good impression.

    In High School I had a class in salesmanship, and one week we were mandated to read and study Dale Carnegie's book, How to Win Friends and Influence People

    I argued all week with the teacher about this, and believing you don't need to "win" friends, and influencing is a separate thing.

    So, it goes way back. BUT, if people feel the need to impress you, then the playing field is tilted in your favor.
