Employing cold calling agents

I am aiming to scale up my cold calling campaign. But before booking an office etc I would like to hire agents.. I don't even mind training them first.

Do you have any recommended process how to do this?
E.g. phone interviews > hire a conference room for training > regular in-person meetings or not...

Something along the lines would be great.. thanks!

Phone interview would of course be a critical part of the process. You looking to hire in your town or internationally?

    Town I'm assuming?

I'd start with just phone interviews. Look for SUPERSTARS. Ask them tough questions, be a little bit mean to them - a good cold caller/salesman will handle that well.

Really... put a lot of pressure on them and see how they perform. They need to respond to that really well!

Curious what your project is. Care to share some details? PM?

    Cheers

There are outsourced call center companies you can hire in the Philippines.

    They charge based on RESULTS.

While not completely risk-free, this is less costly than the way things are normally done. Normally,

    YOU shoulder all the risks.

If you can share these performance based companies that would be great. I came across some, but they charge per hour and also based on performance. I am not too sure to invest with them. I tried to hire independent agents that were more expensive than them and they were AWFUL

Just to add - I am not launching this campaign in an English speaking area. But I am currently here.

Secondly, do you think I should meet them in person to do the training? I am planning to do regular team building excercises (buying them drinks)... working in financial services I know this helps a lot to build a good team...

So I am not sure whether to hire a small conference room and train them all at once, or just keep it casual and meet them for a coffee individually to tell them about what I expect

You need to change your expectations. The way you are talking makes me think you have no idea what you are doing. Worse than that it sounds like you don't know what you don't know.

Rent a room and have the TM in person with you telling them exactly what to say, you listening to them call, you coaching them, you cracking the whip.

Meeting for coffee ain't gonna get it done. Team building means jack. They will not be working together.

We really need more info from you though. What are you selling? And who are you selling it to?

First of al you won't find a international call center that will get you any results and you won't find anyone to work on a commission only basis that will be a pro or last longer then a week. If I'm appointment setting id never trust my paycheck with someone else's closing ability. Iv never seen someone be successful with a phillipino call center or a commission only agent.

You'll also want them to all be together not working from home. It's extremely hard to stay motivated at home for cold callers and having everyone together creates a competitive high energy environment and gets the best results.

This is why the person above does not get sales at all , there have been a lot of companies that use workers in other countries and have been very successful! having a racist attitude towards a certain group does not give you good cred just the op-site

BTW did you check to see if the OP was from one country you mentioned ? just because you may be a legend in your mind does not mean that the OP can work in an office or may not be able and a house is all they need , so next time think before you...

What do you know personally about outbound call centers? I think your the same person that said it's impossible to sell something if you don't have the lowest price right? I can go back and find the thread. I'm telling the op what I know WORKS.

          OK thanks for the responses...

I've done sales before and I know for a fact that I need one office and get it working from there... so that's a no surprise.

However, because of the market I don't see it wise to invest into it at this stage. If I validate that market is ready in 2-3 weeks cald calling with a decent team, and I close some deals via appointments then it's a different story. The investment isn't big at all given that business students or business graduates or sales people earn per hour LESS than outsourced Phillipinos (anyway, they are out of the question because I doubt they can speak Slovak language). Therefore I can test this from home relatively cheaply.

Now I need to make them work from home, it's the most optimal solution for short term.... renting a room would also mean a portion of the equipment.

I tested my idea with one student - no previous experience in sales, but interest (read books etc that bull*hit).. I trained him and he's done pretty good...

          Any thoughts?

Edit: I didn't react to the post about Filipino workers, but I went through rigorous process of picking a decent call centre,,, so far the only way I can protect my ROI is by a very good deal - i.e. they will get paid only if they hit certain goals. Other CC are not willing to do that and BS me big time. I interviewed some of the agents and they are horrible. I hired some independent agents charging around 10 USD / hour and they were horrible also. I didn't invest into an agent for a month tho, but Filipino workers from MY EXPERIENCE dont seem to be optimal for a high performing sales campaign
