How Much Business Do You Get from Social Media?

I am just curious - how much business do you get from social media?

If you get business, is it from paid ads/promotion or just free content/posts/etc.?

Which social media platforms (if any) get you the best results?

We have gotten some business from social media. Twitter is actually better for us for new customers. FB is more for people who already know about us/brand awareness.

I don't do social media, however I was speaking to a guy today. He has a takeaway and he spent a similar amount on FB and leaflets to his local area. The leaflets outperformed FB by 3-4 times.
I would say though that he still did make a profit from FB, just that he made far greater ROI from leafleting.

    Thanks for the responses.

I wonder if (for us) social media is truly worth the time and effort. I don't know if it's cost effective for the amount of time that is put into it. (Right now, I would say no. But one big job would be a resounding yes.)

I do fairly well with social media in my MLM efforts. I do exceptionally well with social media selling product. But finding clients for my services... or other peoples services for that matter - I would consider it the last place to go - with a caveat

The caveat... if the geographical area you are targeting has a small business group or the like, I would be posting there. I cant say this loud enough or big enough POST and DONT SELL.

One of the things you need to start doing is tracking down names and faces and the business' they run. Maybe call those places of business with a quick 2 question survey. In the phone call you want to mention your company name ( hopefully it is the same as your facebook account or close ) and use the information garnered as content for your posts. 15 local business surveyed say that they need help with X or 40% of local business surveyed have a website etc etc.

By doing this you are initiating the giving process. with time the people will associate the questionnaire calls to the posts... you become a valued member of the group, you become an expert in what ever it is you do. They may reach out and start asking questions. Basically you want to open the channel to allow them to come to you.. and not the other way around. Let everyone else bother them on the phone and post outright sales pitches..

You become the person that is concerned with local business.. you are the one there to help.. you will be the one that gets work in the long run.

I don't know what business you are into, I can only say I use facebook and g+ a lot for my local business.
Like savidge4 says, I post and don't sell on there.

What social media, in my case especially facebook is great for is BRANDING

Get my name, my logo, my products ... in front of they eyes of potential customers all the time.
Keep reminding them that I am here and doing business and when the time comes and they need my services they will remember my brand.

I have never run any facebook ads, I have never run any sort of coupon or special offer thing or anything like that. I just keep my followers updated on what I am doing. And if it's only a selfie of me working.

Yes I get a lot of customers through social media that way.

Yes! It is quite useful as I only social media and SEO to get traffic and I get some good traffic but you have to work regularly on it to get the same amount of traffic. I am generating my 40% business from Social media.

I don't get business directly from social media, it's more of a branding and awareness mechanism to be honest. Majority of my business is WOM, that said I am fairly confident new business contacts would check social media to cement their decision to use my services. I think it's got a lot to do with the industry of course.

Personally we get a lot of business from social media but my choice of social media is Youtube and that is just because it lent itself to my type of promotion and the route I took early on.

I have competitors who do well with Facebook and I have clients who I consult to who do very well with Facebook but they are in female heavy niches and have a team that understands the whole Facebook marketing both paid and not.

The biggest issue that most marketers should consider is the increased use of adblockers and the effect they may have on the advertisements placed on social media platforms.

The wise are busy building content and a content heavy marketing strategy to work around the adblock issues. Also content will get shared more and people who discover you from content are probably more likely to buy.

The real social aspects of social media will continue to influence people's buying decisions but as marketers we may not be so able to rely on sponsored posts or paid advertisements to drive the same level of traffic or the same quality of prospects.

The key is to use social media to expand your reach and drive traffic back to useful content that then funnels people towards business offerings.

    Best regards,

    Ozi

I get probably 20% of my business from social media. But I agree with the other poster that said leaflets are the way to go. I get a lot more business with that for some reason.

  • In my experience, you can get between 20% and 40% of your sales through social media, this of course depends on the type of business youre running among other things.
However, I have to say that the most valuable thing you can get from social media is not the sales, its the reputation and the brand awareness, that can in the long term help your business to expand.
