Beginner Copywriter...No Idea Where to Begin

Hello,

I am a novice copywriter/freelance writer looking to market my skills. Since I am a martial artist who is also big into exercise and nutrition, I would like to try focusing on that market. The thing is, I don't know where to begin.

Some people say, "Try reaching out to local businesses." Okay, but how? Do I really just cold call/email people saying "pay me hundreds of dollars to write articles for you?"

Just lost as to where to begin. Any help would be appreciated.

What is it that you're trying to get out of copywriting?

Are you trying to market your business as a martial artist? Or do you want to do copywriting full time and create a blog and a niche in your area? What is it that you're looking to do.

There are plenty of things to do but I'd avoid cold calling at this point.

    Start this way:

    - Set up a blog
    - Set up examples of your work and develop a price point
    - Arrange a few different streams of income on IM while you are starting out
    - Practice by joining some freelance sites and doing some blog writing in your niche, that way you will build up your experience

    More info would help

Is that what you'd do in your copy for a client...?

Strategy 1: Write a compelling letter explaining why people should buy your services. Send to all martial arts schools in your area. Should be a doddle for a copywriter. Follow up. Further letters/phone call, walk in, postcard. Whatever it takes. Ensure you offer a bullet proof guarantee.

Strategy 2: Take a look at the materials that are being put out by martial arts schools in your area. Improve them. Approach schools and offer your improved version on a contingency basis. No improvement in results, then no pay.

Once you get a bite, do a top class job and ask for referrals/testimonials. Expand your empire by writing more letters quoting testimonials...

I was being sarcastic with the "pay me hundreds" remark.

      Thanks for the tips.

First off head to the copy writing forum and look around there. Most of the stuff posted there in the last few months is Junk. But the stickys are gold. Some advice look at some of the older posters there. Gordon J, (use to be GJBiz ) Andre Gould, Raydall, Angiecolee, Marcia Yudkin, Rick Duris, and a few others. A good review of there posts will help you out. You can check their profiles then go to statistics, click on posts to view this information.

This post here maybe the place to start. http://www.warriorforum.com/copywrit...ng-system.html This Will send you to the copywriting section and has some great replies. Read the whole thread and take some action that was presented there.

Moderators should move this to the right section please.

OP is asking about offline marketing, not copywriting...

What I tell people if you cannot afford to use a professional sales copy person. Is to look at all the websites in your niche and look at why you like that website. Use the headline but not exact same you have to change it around. THe idea is to get ideas from other peoples sites. Not to copy Robert
