Guest posters for Small Business Marketing blog

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone is having a good time on the run up to the festive season.

I'd like to ask your advice on how to approach Offline Businesses for interviews about how they market their businesses. I don't just want it to be about how well they do, but also about the challenges they face, and how they overcome or deal with them, and get an understanding of how they currently market their businesses (if at all).

If you were wanting to do a similar thing - how would you approach this?

Thanks for reading,

Andy.

I do this kind of stuff all the time... I approach people at coffee shops..i call them directly and ask if they have the time for an interview. In many cases I exchange their time for a copy of a report I produce after so many local interviews... that way I keep the "prospect" in the loop in terms of a sale, but relieve the reassure on the front end and get vary truthful information about them and their business on the front end

I like that idea, giving them something in exchange for their time and honesty, and keep them in the loop - let them see how their interview is being used, so they can promote it to their customers (e.g.).

      Thanks for your reply.

This is a very good idea, I'm going to implement this.

Bottom line is people love to talk about their business.

The first thing I'd do is I would approach them with a copy of the questionaire in advance for them to have a look at but with no obligation in taking part.
It could make it easier for them to say yes if they have time to come up with some great answers to your questions and the interviewing process will go a lot smoother with more value received for both sides.

I have found that biz owners are usually open to interviews if you contact them. (I contact them for book interviews, so that may be different, but I don't know of too many biz owners who say no to talking about themselves/their biz. )
