    As animal44 says.......

This is totally passive advertising, it's NOT targetted, it's probably not measurable, it's doesn't prompt response/action.

You'll get far more result for your money using other methods (and there are plenty of them explained right here on the forum)......the fact you're asking shows that you may be considering it but

at least you now know what others opinion is so well done for asking.

I think it would help bring in business but you would probably need to create an incentive for traffic to pick up a card, example, include a discount price on the business card/s.

People buy local coupon books so it's pretty much the same thing.

If I walk into an auto mechanic shop and see a coupon/business card with a discount at a local pizza place odds are I would pick up the card because sometimes I eat pizza. If I found a coupon/business card in a pizza place for a mechanic I'd probably pick up the card because I drive a vehicle, vehicles break down.

All the cards could easily be tracked based on coupon code numbers.

Example, the cards in the rack at the mechanic shop could have coupon code #A2017 while the same mechanic business card at the pizza place across town would have the coupon code #B2017, and so on... Basically each location would have a unique ID so you can collect data and see which businesses/locations are generating the most traffic.

You could even print out unique coupon ID labels and stick them on the back of each card, that would be extremely low cost. This way If a business already has 5,000 business cards in a shoe box on a shelf it won't cost them anything extra (incentive). No small business wants to have 5,000 old business cards (example) that are still up to date and then turn around and buy more business cards for a unique tracking ID code. This can be a selling point towards small businesses, put those old business cards to use.

Also need to make it obvious on the card rack display the cards are also coupons with discounts on services/products otherwise odds are nobody will pick up a card.

You could test this on a very small scale, like 3 local businesses. This way the cards could be placed at the cash register of each small business.

Even if you only had to pay for your business cards, and nothing to display them, I can't imagine this would pay for itself.

But general business cards displayed to the general public? No.

Like others have said, there are far far more productive ways to advertise a business.

This is one of these advertising methods that seems like it would work...but nobody in the history of advertising has ever seen it generate a profit for the advertiser.

In my experience, the concept itself certainly is a sound marketing foundation, although I have no actual experience with that particular company.

Placing business cards in high traffic public venues has of course been going on long before the internet, and still is an accepted medium for generating leads.

However, as with all marketing, the message, products/services and media needs to be integrated with other online/offline channels and aligned for relevance to your targeted prospects.

For example (I assume you are promoting your MLM business), promoting your MLM opportunity directly will fall flat on the majority of the population who are already slammed with such advertising.

But lead with an enticing offer such as a free product report, discount product/service coupon, or nominally-priced related third party product to generate an inquiry; appointment, call, online video, subscription etc.

Besides placing audience-optimized business cards in physical locations, consider also display advertising in local newspapers, magazines, relevant trade journals, and even broadcast media.

If you place the cards in the right places...

You're a real estate attorney and you place your cards in the office where one of your real estate agents works, might be worth it. Or you're a wedding photographer and leave your cards at your friend's business, which is a wedding dress shop.

But to leave your cards in random places?

Yes, I know, my barber has a board where people put cards and notices... The 'apartment for rent' seem to attract attention. The others? I don't know. I know of no one who's bragging of getting 1 client a year doing that. I know some people, small business owners, who've done that.

"Didn't cost that much, so I thought why not," is the response to why did you do it.

"Nah," is the response to did you get any sales?

We've done that kind of "trading counter space for cards" with retailers and service businesses that attract the kind of buyer we like. And a few times a year, we have someone call us.

I know that the home inspection business(if they follow a certain guru) has an extensive network of realtors that place a bowl of candy on their counter with the home inspector's cards in the bowl. You need to do it with a few hundred realtors's offices, and keep the candy bowl filled...but it really works to get the realtors to recommend the home inspectors, and home buyers take the cards and call too. For many home inspectors it's the only marketing they do, and they keep busy.

But that's almost a joint venture between two symbiotic businesses. I have a few cards on my counter; a carpet cleaner, a carpet store, a home decor person....and they do the same for me, and they are also customers.

But random business cards on a public board? Why not? although I would never think that this was real advertising.

Once, maybe 30 years ago, I made up a free "vacuum cleaner tune up" coupon. I had them printed up in pads of 100, and they were glued to a stand up display, with a good headline. I think I put out about 150 in retail stores around town. In a few months, I stopped checking on the displays because the results were so bad.

Let's call it $1,000 for printing and a week of my time. maybe 4 or 5 coupons in total. No real sales that I remember.

The business card is the second most powerful networking tool of all time because of its simplicity, effectiveness, and speed of communication, in my not so humble opinion. But just as with so many other otherwise powerful and time-proven effective marketing strategies, people quite often misuse it, abuse it, or contort it into unrecognizeable iterations of the original, then complain it doesn't work.

I have taught my downline how to use business cards strategically for offline marketing, and we've been having consistent phenomenal success over the years. In my experience, the key is to have your cards professionally printed, with a presentable headshot, and a short 3-5 word product benefit headline with a strong call to action such as a pre-recorded "sizzle" call. And always offer a free sample, relevant report, ebook, webinar, or other incentive in exchange for contact information.

The back of the card (people almost always look at the back) will also contain a useful resource/tip or two, additional contact information such as the distributor's website, email address and social media such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Printerest, etc when applicable.

Placement locations should of course be appropriate to your target market - random places such as public bulletin boards, car windshields, mall bombing and other such "hit and run" methods just don't cut it. But having attractive business card displays in professional offices, medical/dental clinics, chiropractors, restaurants, small businesses, specialty retail stores (non-chain types), etc seems to pull in especially well.

We usually offer a small gift to the owners/managers or secretaries in exchange for their counter space. And not too infrequently, they sign up with our business themselves! For MLM this is particularly quite powerful, because it is so simple and - duplicatable.
