How do I sell local leads?

If you get a bunch of people looking for a roofer, you contact a handful of roofers and tell them you get x number of people a month looking for a roofer. Tell them you're looking to match them with a roofer. Are they interested?

If yes, you have 3 ways of going about it:
you get really involved in securing the job (and get paid per job, a large amount)

you just give them a roofer's phone number and your blessings (and you get paid a flat fee, small in relation to option 1) whether they buy or not.

Or, you don't get involved but get paid a larger amount than with option 2 for every sale. (Which means, your agreement, like with option 2, must allow you access to their books.)

Are you known in your area? If not, you're going to have a hard time convincing roofers (people). You might even come across some who will not take free samples from you because they do not trust you.

Need some help here.

I have a local Instagram page and blog.

I promote different things to do locally.

I get many followers asking me for referrals to local businesses

They usually DM me.

How do I turn around and sell their interest to local businesses?

Do I call the business and tell them I have 5 people who want to use their service?
How do I sell it to them? how much? Paypal? Credit card?
How and what do I tell my followers to get their info?
Do I add a form on my site for my followers to fill out?
I sell advertising on my site already, so these would be for businesses that dont.

Id really appreciate any ideas you guys might help me with.

But I think I can sell for ten dollars each, but how will I know if they converted into customers? does that matter? or do I just sell the lead? Name and telephone number?

Thank you
JC

I really appreciate your feedback! what about selling just the leads for small fee i.e. $5 or $10

who to I retrieve and send?

These businesses are usually things to do places, like jet ski, dance classes, etc.

    Thanks again

JCV, you are talking about essentially the same model as sites like HomeAdvisor or Angie's List. I've hired a couple of services through HA, and asked about the model.

It's a straight up lead sale. I enter the service I'm looking for and they show me options near me, along with reviews. If I select one or more, my contact info is forwarded to the vendor, who then contacts me. The fee for each contact forwarded is around $20.

You don't have the reviews, etc. so $5 or $10 sounds reasonable.

What you do is contact individual businesses and let them know what you do, and ask a simple question - 'should we be talking?'

For example, you mentioned jet ski (rental, I assume).
    Hi, [name of contact],

My name is JCV, and I have an Instagram page about local things to do. People ask me for recommendations for jet ski rentals, and I'd like to be able to give them one.

    Should we be talking?

If so, here's my contact info. I'd love to share more details with you.

    Best,
No hard sell, just an offer to exchange information of value. If you can't find the contact name, make a quick, anonymous phone call and ask for the name and title of the person in charge of marketing. With many small companies, that will be the owner.

The ideal way to do it is to have them pre-pay for a set number of leads. At this stage of the game, this may be hard for you. You don't really have a track record for providing quality leads yet.

So there has to be some trust on both sides. Follow the sequence you posted, with maybe weekly or monthly invoicing. Billing them for each lead individually will soon become a PITA for both of you. Not a good thing.

Another option is similar to the way web hosting, autoresponders, etc. are billed. You set up a subscription, and each month you send an invoice for a set amount. PayPal, for example, will simply tap their account for the subscription amount.

With this option, you trade a bit of profit if you supply more leads than normal in a given month, but you gain some stability with a monthly income. Besides, if your lead flow grows substantially enough, you can always raise your rates.

You got some great advice jcv. But maybe you should be looking for a course that will give you step by step instructions on the local lead Gen business.

Yes this does cost money but if you are trying to 'wing' it off just the advice given on this forum...you may end up making a lot of mistakes which can cause you to quit thus venture before it really starts.

Right now you are only looking at local lead generation from only one angle...leads alone.

You may miss out on other aspects (and additional profits like the building of client websites etc).

Some courses that have been put together (by people who have walked the walk and not just the talk...people who have already been successful with local lead Gen biz) and are 'proven'.

The best way to get a local lead is by effectively using local SEO. But I guess you want to know how to convert the local leads into actual customers. That is the job of your sales department. How well they are able to convert those leads into conversions. But, you have to take the support of local SEO. If you are not aware of the fact how to use this method, then obviously you have to study about it on some renowned blogs like Techmagnate, Search Engine Land, Moz etc. And if you still cannot carry out this process you can take the support of any renowned agency.

OP has the leads. OP wants to know how to approach business owner and get paid for his leads.

Also, SEO is not the best...

For some businesses, it's not even half-way decent.

What if that company pays 50% less than a company that's a bit harder to work with?

What about starting a separate website/ landing page

    Something about leads dot com

I call businesses and ask them if they're interested. I tell them I have 6 leads at $7 each from my source and social media pages.

I Tell them to purchase from the site.
