It might, just *might*, help if you gave people any inkling of what the actual fark the topic of your event might be. Getting people to attend an event about dogs would be different than finding people to go to a comic book event.

Though you put this under the "Offline Marketing" category and as ironic as this might sound, I believe you should consider posting about your event on Facebook (and in other social networking sites). That's where all your prospects can be found. Create an event on Facebook and do marketing campaigns that can bring the word out about the event you're organizing. -Micah

If it is B2C or consumer related event social media is the best source.
