Pricing of direct mail?

Hi Warriors,

I have a product in the pet market that I would like to sell. I wanted to try direct mail. Does anyone know what it should cost me to send a direct mail letter to just 1 person?

What cost am I looking at for just sending 1 letter out to 1 potential customer?

If anyone has any experience or could get me a price list from a well known leads/direct mail company that would be awesome

Thanks

Mr Nice

A couple pennies for a piece of paper

A couple more pennies for an envelope

Just under 50 cents for a first class stamp

So if you write the letter yourself, it should cost less than a dollar.

Or, if you want to hire someone to write the letter for you, then it will cost a bit more (that price will be something you'd need to ask the copywriter)

Don't forget the list broker... he has to be paid.

Yes, I guess I shouldn't have assumed anything.
But, I figured anyone who's only going to send 1 letter, to 1 person, already had a recipient in mind

Personally, and I'm only speculating here....this hasn't been tested
    by me......

I think you'd get a much better result by mailing more than one person.

    There I've said it.

    Why not try 50 say....gosh...maybe even a 100.

  • i tried a test of 30 and got 2 replies....
    I only need 2 customers a year..
Uk cost me about £1 or $1.39c for each letter. £100 a customer is well worth it for me

What you need is a list broker.

Nextmark.com is one. There are many others on the internet.

I am also interested in this area. Has anyone tried postcard mania? I am thinking of running a campaign with them, any reviews?

Yes, they are good for fulfillment.

However, don't base the success or failure of the campaign
      on them.

      The...
      List,
      Timing
      Message

In that order is the biggest determiner of the success or failure.

      Best,
      Ewen

I would also say the industry as well, as certain industries (like the financing industry) are bombarded with mailing offers by a number of well established players, and to expect a return, you really need to have a unique offer, and.or a very large ongoing marketing budget

(Guys like Lending tree, Ondeck, Capital, etc. spend six figures a month on mailers).
