Lead Generation - Do websites like Angies List have a big impact on your number of leads?

Hi all. I am getting into lead generation for local niche businesses. Mostly for contractor types like Roofers or Deck Builders or Landscapers etc. I was wondering earlier about how much of an effect websites like Angies list and Home Advisor have on your ability to get leads?

Do most people use those types of websites these days to find contractors or is it still a viable option to rank a niche business website for a contractor like roofer then sell leads to them through that? I do not want to invest a ton of time building these websites to find that Angies List and websties like that take up most if not all of the leads.

I am really excited about getting into this and was planning to get started on my first website next week but now I am having second thoughts after thinking of that. Thanks!

Savidge already explained this to you.

Maybe go back and read through the stats he shared.

There's always competition in a market though.

Thank you. I know we talked some about those type of directory wrbsites but I was wondering if lead generators had started seeing a decline in leads frok organic search results over the last few years as angies list and home advisor gain popularity. I am thinking I am going to try both rank amd rent and post card direct mail as Ewen has posted some very compelling reasons to try it. Savidge has given me some great info that will Help with rank amd remt as well.

Yes, they have as well as Home Advisor, Houze and Yelp.

They are all a price and comparison platform for advertisers
because their competitors are all their beside them.

If you want to be of real service to
    local home improvement biz owners,
get their ads in the hands of home owners
    without their competitors being there.

That is why phone calls generated from direct mail
    produce higher dollar value clients.

You will be the only one offering a competition free zone
    ad platform!

    Best,
    Ewen

Look at ewenmack profile and read the threads he has started over the years. He is a big help here. Personally thank the guy if you his methods, he is a great asset on this forum. All you have to do is click on his name in the left corner if you are in the classic view.

I absolutely agree that you are very helpful here. I have been reading the forum for years and have read many of your posts in that time. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me with this information you have posted for me. I am already putting the plans into motion to offer direct mail marketing to clients within the next month. I have an advertisement email going out to my local chamber of commerce email list of business owners within the next few weeks and in that email flyer I plan to advertise a 9x12 eddm direct mail co op post card and try to sell spots on the card to businesses in town and mail it to either 5000 or 10000 people here. I am really excited to see how well it does. Now I just need to work on the copy for the email ad and see how many people will sign up. I will need at least 10 to sign up to make it profitable for me. Thanks!

I do property management and rehab. I always need painters, handymen, electricians, movers etc
Place a $5.00 ad on Craigslist for a specific and real job [maybe for you or someone you know that needs a room painted etc]. Be as detailed and specific as you can [dont say i need some things fixed around the house].
Best not to have it tied to your cell phone [use google voice or email only] you will get swamped with contractors looking for gigs. There you have 100 customers to target!
