Doing "Google My Business" without Ads

Hi,

My friend has been told by Google she needs to advertise with them to get her "Google My Business" listing showing, (or they've led her to believe that).

She's stuck, as her 3-4 competitors are showing on the map, but not her. She just wants to be on the map. What's the best easiest way?

Main Search term: "Tattoo Studio (town name)"

I don't have an off-line biz so I don't know, but the research I've done (now that you don't need a Google+ page), is that a local business can still be seen on the map at the top without spending money on ads.

Can someone let me know if that's correct please?

Thank you

"Google my business" is a free service offered by Google to get your business listed in it's directory. No need to pay anything or buy ads.

And a premium listing isn't necessary to get great position. Just a well filled out listing is needed.
    Here's a link.

    Thank you Claude.

    Question for anyone:
Do I have to login to my friend's Google account to do it for her?

Or can only the business owner do it?

She is struggling and is very busy with her business, it would be helpful if I could do it for her. But I notice one part of it, requires postal address authentication. So that would have to be her business address. I live nowhere near her.

How do other Intenet Marketers do this for their clients?

    Thanks a lot

I might suggest it be advised to set this up for her.. if you have to authenticate.. its a CODE, and once she gets the card she can simply call you with the information. easy easy

Claude is right. My consulting business shows up on the map and I didn't have to do any ads for that to happen.

I don't recall a postal address "authentication" to set this up. I don't see why someone else couldn't set this up other than the business owner themselves. I highly doubt owners of big businesses are the ones entering their own Google My Business information.

If it's asking for postal address authentication, can't your friend give you theirs? It's not tracking your IP address or GPS'ing your location is it? Even then, if your friend travelled to your location for vacation and wanted to set up their account, they wouldn't be able to do that sitting beside you?

NO.. you do NOT have to spend money, and chances are better than good the people she is talking to IS NOT from Google.

Something to point out... if you type in JUST " Tattoo Studio " in google does she show on the map? if no... lower left of the 3 pack box you will see "More Places" once you click on that is she there? IF no, then she needs to create a google my business account ( https://www.google.com/business/ce/n....google.com%2F )

IF she is there... one thing to keep in mind.. the 3 pack is now somewhat dynamic geographically. Who and what it lists when you place a search if located in one section of town will more than likely be different than on the other side of town ( depending on how big your town is )

you can use your phone as you do whatever it is you do, and try searches from different places and see if she "Appears" in the 3 pack.

    Hope that Helps!

I should have mentioned that. I'm sure they aren't with Google. They are selling a service to get the business listed....

There are plenty of services that will get your business listed in online directories, including google. But you don't have to use these services.

You should get your friend to open the Google My Business account and verify the account via a mobile SMS message to their phone.

They can enter the business name, address and phone number.

Then in the menu on the left hand side there is a tab called "Users" It is about the tenth option down.

Get them to click Users and add you and your email address as a "Manager"

You will get a notification to your email that you are invited to manage the page and you should verify and login to the GMB page and start doing your stuff.

Then you can add all the images and other content.

It will pay to add at least a few new images a week/month whatever you can cope with and be sure to include pictures of the front and inside of the business.

Having numerous images is good because you can see the stats on how many people are viewing those images. Helps to identify areas of interest.

    Add a few videos also.

Then if you want to start ramping things up make sure you copy the "REVIEWS" link and start both SMS messaging and emailing to customers a few days after they've got their new tattoo and send the review link in the message asking them to leave feedback.

If those customers who you send the review link do have gmail accounts they will most likely already be logged in when they click the link to review and they go straight to the star rating page.

Generating positive reviews consistently is one of the easiest ways to help get you into the three pack.

    Best regards,

    Ozi

      Awesome, thanks a lot Ozi!

Very helpful step by step info on adding a manager and getting reviews. I will definitely do that, thanks.

If you have listed your Business on Google Business/Google map so obviously it should show on Google Business listing but if still facing the issue.

So try to find the option for are missing in your profile because somewhere it also matters.
