Selling an online and offline business

Hi all! I'm hoping to get some help and direction on how to sell a local business of mine (but can be done from anywhere!).

It's been profitable the last 6-ish years, even though I haven't really dedicated my full time to it, hence the wanting to sell it.

I have gone in a different direction with things and I think this business would make someone some really nice cash if they dedicated themselves.... like say around 10K a month in the beginning. Everything is in place. Someone would just have to run with it.

I have no idea other than Craigslist (LOL) to sell such a thing. It's both online and offline and I'm willing to offer up full support and training for a year, plus all of my intellectual property. There's a whole business plan in place as well, so it really is turn-key.

I know I can expect someone wanting numbers, but I'm looking at more of selling the assets of it. Aged domain, been on page one forever, all the intellectual property and my time and help to ensure they succeed.

Thanks for any input!!!
~ Theresa

I'll message you an interview I did on my podcast with a broker, all about everything you need to know. Of course if I post it here it'll be self-promotion :-/

If you have your numbers and price ready to list you can list it on flippa. Flippa is an online marketplace for websites, apps and online businesses.

I second the Flippa recommendation. It's a great platform and the ads on there sound like your post, so you already have good copy in place They also walk you through how to make an appealing ad. You can also pay to heavily promote it. They recommend using escrow to pay, which is a very secure method of payment for handing over sensitive material like that to strangers online. They don't release payment to the seller until the buyer confirms that all agreed upon material was provided.

Depending on what you've got for sale, you might want to consider bricks and mortar businesses in the same niche...

I sold off virtually my entire online empire to such people.

Caveat: I had systems in place which did not require the business owner to learn how to run the business. I had freelancers doing almost everything according to documented systems and their contracts were part of the deal. So they bought a functioning business, not a job.

Here's an article from a UK Business Broker which might help.

And another one, that you might not like... :-)

      Thanks Animal!

The tricky thing here is the people that are B&M, are my clients and prospects. Letting it out there that I'm selling, would be detrimental at best.

However, you got me really thinking about digging a little deeper in finding other businesses that would really profit from owning such a thing. *I'm so sorry about the vagueness of this*

With everything that's been suggested, I see that I need to put a few more ducks in a row. But, this thread really helped in giving me direction and clearing up the webs in my head!

      Thanks again,
      ~ Theresa

You might want to consider listing it with a broker such as FE International. I'm sure there are plenty of others but that's the only one I'm familiar with at the moment. They can help you find a buyer and handle the transaction. If you check out their website there are a lot of informative resources to help with any questions you might have about the process.
