Google Beacon For Businesses

OFFLINE MARKETING

I've placed the Google Beacon in several of my clients businesses including bars and restaurants.

What is exact purpose of these? I've seen some locations have activated them somehow and can it will send an alert message when I'm in vicinity. I want to so this for my clients.

Has anyone had experience with them? Please advise.

There was another thread on this I think. Isn't it basically spamming people's phones via text message?

I could be wrong...

But if it is, the fines are expensive. Customers need to have a choice to opt-in, in order to be compliant.

I'll see if I can find that other thread.

There are basically 2 points of communication you can have "from" a beacon. To an APP that is on someones device.. OR through a Google service - such as maps.

If the Bars etc have an APP.. you can create some pretty cool interactive functionality.. "welcome Back" "do you want to order drinks or look at a food menu first?" "Hey thanks for coming in 10 times this month the first drink is on us - show this screen to your server."

If you're talking about Nearby Notifications, Google shut that down late last year. The only way it works now is with an app that plugs into the Google API. I mentioned this in the thread listed above.

Yes you have to register your beacons with Google. https://developers.google.com/beacons/get-started is a step by step guide
