Sticking A4 on trees ..

Hi all,
Here I can often see A4 papers stuck to trees in the neighborhood with some online services, actually any services.
Do this still work? Like maybe I've just took a peek on one in my lifetime so why do people bother to do this still ? Of course different people different manners.
Have any experience with that?

    In many places now you will be ticketed by police for posting on property you don't own. check the laws where you live.
