Regarding offline consulting, what sort of things would you like to learn about most?
  • Lead generation?
  • Converting clients?
  • Local SEO?
  • Email marketing?
  • Promiting via the web?
  • Super secret "mega" guru tactics? (Kidding)
  • Something else?

I'm going to be starting a free podcast all about Offline Consulting, and I want to cover the topics people want most - so lend a hand! Let me know what you're after.

I'd like to learn about getting clients who are ok with paying $1k+ for non-programming tasks.

Or other $1k+ tasks that people need/want done.

    Cheers,

    Brad

If I want to learn something right now, local offline marketing would be a good choice. It will guide me on marketing the products directly to customers in order to generate a sale, or even market the product using ads on newspapers and other classifieds. It is somehow powerful and challenging, and learning new things daily.

Eh I'd go with converting clients.. that's the most important part imo.. you can have all the SEO skills in the world but if you can't sell your services it's all pointless..

I would like to know about the whole kind of consultative selling thing.

      Consultative selling is essentially:

      1. Identifying your target market
      2. Identifying your ideal customer or clients (based on demographics, psychographics e.t.c)
      3. Finding out what their biggest problems are in their business
      4. Finding out if they are actively seeking solutions to those problems
      5. Finding out if they are spending money on solving those problems
      6. Becoming visible to your target market - One of the best ways is by using visibility enhancers such as information products and free events
      7. Becoming visible to your target market - One of the best ways is by using visibility enhancers such as information products and free events
      8. Offering value first to your target market/ideal customers or clients
      9. Differentiating yourself or being able to answer the questions "Why you?"
      10. Building relationships
      11. Offering samples of solutions you can offer so that they can 'taste' your abilities (now that you're visible)
      12. Providing opportunities for them to do business with you
      13. Repeating the marketing and selling system / process
That's an overview and because so many people seek shortcuts you'll stand out as a serious business to be considered as a business partner

      Hope this helps

My goal is to eventually get to a 30 hour work week.

You've provided some great tools on lead generation. But I guess the 2 topics I would like to be covered is just more easy lead generation ideas, and services to offer clients that make residual income that can be easily implemented & outsourced.

    Hey Chris,

I think one of your topics should define just what a consultant is as it pertains to offline marketing. There is a huge mis-interpretation of the term. Many call themselves offline consultants when in fact all they are doing is selling online services to offline local businsses. Selling is not consulting. Local business owners see the title "consultant" & expect much more than someone who's experience is limited to slapping up a google places listing or installing an autoresponder. Their marketing needs may be much deeper....they expect spot on advice & someone who can offer viable solutions.

There are consenquences of mis-representing themselves....loss of clients, loss of referrals, black marks on your business reputation & who can forget those pesky lawsuits....

Good luck with your podcasts....will you let us know when & where we can hear these?

I would like to learn more about how to position yourself as a "marketing consultant" vs. "an internet marketing sales person."
I learned early on that as soon as you say the word "Internet," some business owners immediately shut you down (not all, but some). So, I've changed my lead-in approach to something that's working a lot better, but would still like more ideas.

Great feedback on here about this! Yeah, I think everyone's major concern is getting clients on here.

That's why I put together my ecourse just on that! I have two clients right now that pay me $500+ a month for non-programming tasks. I work 20 hours a week from home and that's it!

As far as getting new clients, its all about getting a huge number of prospects every month using every avenue of selling possible!

All marketing works to a degree!

What I found to do for easy sales is simply sell websites. Then, backup your other services once you built the site.

Businesses understand they need websites, so you dont need to sell at all!

If you get just one new website done per month, you are on to a full time income through backend upgrades like SEO!
