How to approach restaurants/ cafes

Hey fellow warriors,

I'm in need of some advice.

I am about to get my feet wet in the offline business spectrum but needed some help. I just finished constructing my business plan and I am just stuck on one point.

How to approach my target market?

Here is my service: I will provide social network services to upscale restaurants and cafes.

So, how should I approach them? Cold calling, walk in, email???

Im just looking for ideas that have worked for you guys in the past.

Thank you in advance.

I am a "In Person" kind of person, so that is what I feel comfortable with, but you can cover more businesses quicker if you go with cold calling or email.

I just feel like I can get a better feel for them and they can of me as well in person. I have a lot more control of the situation then on the phone.

You might want to pick a few specific restaurants that you feel you could help or you are familair with or maybe you are a customer of, and target them in person first to get your feet wet.

The free WSO on the top in my sig covers the same niche you are targeting, you may find some value in it. It is free with no opt in required, so feel free to check it out if you'd like.

    Good luck starting out.

      Chad,

I tend to be the same way when it comes to meeting face 2 face. Having control is so valuable it allows you to get bigger checks. YAY!

      Osman,

Have you previously worked in the food service industry? How much do you know about the culture of restaurants?

I counsel people who are just starting off in the offline market to look at their past work history and target the niche they have the most understanding of.

Two of my biggest clients are restaurants. I spent time in the bar area, made friends with the staff and manager. Once they knew what I did and got to meet GM, that is when I closed the sales. I charge each of them $1,750.00 per month for Twitter, Facebook, Google Maps, Foursquare and a Blog Page.
    Hope this helps.

Restaurants are great businesses to target - but before approaching management, I'd have something prepared so you don't go in empty handed.

And also... try to target businesses with current webpages. Those who do not have any are a little more high maintenance...

Thanks for the ideas guys. There is one common suggestion which all of you have posted, which is to walk in and talk to these restaurant owners.

@Chad: wow your free WSO hit the nail on the head. Thats exactly the kind of service I'm offering. I have just added a couple of other social network platforms and video marketing.

@Russ: I have some network in the restaurant industry but thats mainly in the low end restaurant category and I'm targeting high end restaurants. Its a challenge but Im up for the task.

@James: wow thats amazing work. I have a similar sort of service package with the exception of a blog. Phase 2 of my business plan will include blog services as well.

Here is what I will do:

I always follow the method where you put in minimum effort and gauge the result. Accordingly, put in more effort to achieve higher results while staying smart.

First order of business:I will try the most minimum effort required on my part, cold calling. From there onwards, gauge the results and tweak as need be.
