Ranking Factors on Google Places has changed

Well the new look has taken over everywhere now i think.

I have noticed shifts in the rankings of my clients. Here is what is happening:

It looks like the search results have changed and Google now takes into account the business website and how relevant it is.

Example:

In the previous interface GP listings in the 7 box appeared in the same order as they appeared in 'Maps'.

Now they are different.

Some of my clients are still in the 'A' position in 'Maps' but not in the 'A' position on natural search.

As an example see 'Lawyers in Glasgow' and 'Accountants in Glasgow'.

We need to get our thinking hats out i think

Ya, that can be one of the draw backs of relying on Google for your business model. If they change, it can throw your whole world out of wack.

I always recommend consultants I mentor have other services that aren't dependent so completely on the whims of the search engines.

I cannot agree more with this statement, Google should be one of your strategies to attract clients as Dan Kennedy says: "There is not worst number in business than 1" one way to attract clients, one main client, one income stream etc...

It's not possible to guarantee top positions in Google rankings to any businesses they need to made aware of this from the outset. Otherwise their expectations might be too high. There are too many factors out of our control i.e competition, Google's algo, etc.

Locally the competition side of things may get bit tougher but luckily there are still plenty of opportunities out there!
