Registering Domains - 1 or 2 Years?

Does anyone know through experience if registering a domain for 2 years will give it more ranking weight with the search engines?

I'm in the testing phase and don't want to spend more than necessary.

    Just get it for one if you're testing.

    A few years back I head Matt Cutts make an off-hand comment that sounded like it may have contributed slightly. More recently, I think I heard him say that it didn't (I think, not sure). In any case, the advantage would be MINIMAL, especially if you aren't even sure if you're going to want the site in a year.

        In my experience it has no bearing at on SEO.

        I always get them for 12 months initially then renew if the domain is working for me how I intended. If not - I let it drop off!

    I'd register for one year initially. You can set it for auto renew just in case and then if it isn't working for you, turn off the auto renew and let it expire.

    Authority will rank you better on search engines. Your site must have all the features that any professional business should have. Take Google for Example, and follow their method of what is being indexed or not indexed online.

    Google in particular pays attention to domain registration and will definitely throw more weight your may with a 2-4 year reg. They are well aware of the fly-by-night, throw'um up on the wall and see what sticks domain owners.
