"good sources for postcard leads for home biz? "

Kevin, if you are a home biz and looking for leads/clints to send postcards to - I would look at infousa for doing a bulk mailing of 4k and up counting on mailing to the list 3 times or stop sooner when I get enough clients.

If I had a smaller budget or I would quickly get a new move in or new home owner list. Depending what type of business I am promoting.

is that the type you are looking for?

Postcard marketing works, there's not doubt to that, but you have to be careful with it. Similar to adwords, you can't just send postcards and expect a nice return.

You have to put the time into:

    1) finding qualified and targeted leads

    2) matching them with a compelling offer

    3) have GREAT sales copy and a great product to offer them

You need money to get it rolling too.

The best post card is the rolling post card, your car! Get out and meet business owners, you'll get bigger checks and spend a lot less money trying to acquire new clients.

Successful post card mailings are very difficult to master and takes a lot of time and money testing results.

Having been in the insurance restoration industry where 10's of thousands of businesses and home owners "REALLY" needed my services still required "EXPERTLY" written and designed post card mailings.

I sunk many thousands of dollars in tried and true post cards that were sent out in no less the 10k lots and it was still less then a 1 percent return, and by return I mean people who actually took the time to call the office for an appointment.

It just wasn't worth it, the money would have been better spent on a sales contest for my salesmen!

Postcard marketing does cost some money. But once you know the basics it isn't difficult to master and doesn't take a lot of time either.

Of course if you want to think that - go ahead - but from day 1 I've always paid for my postcards in cash and made money overall.

The great thing about postcards is they are so cheap you can afford to send them again and again and again before needing to make a sale to break even.

Say you sell a $1500 package - that means you can send out 4,500 postcards (@ 33 cents a piece) and sell just one package to break even.

In recent years I've sent as many as 18,000 postcards to prospective customers.

At any rate, good luck to you and if you want to check out a postcard marketing resource here is one -

You're printing postcards and buying names for 6 cents a postcard Tim? That's pretty impressive.

          Bruce -

Yeah I get full color cards and labels for 6.2 cents per card. I use a real stamp so that cost me 28 cents. So I budget for 33 or 34 cents per card.

Not that difficult to do really. More of a numbers game.

More cards out, more money in.

Hope the new life is treating you well.

To me and this is just from my 20 some odd years of experience in all facets of sales, your experience may be different but....

        Sending a post card,
        Leaving or sending a proposal,
Giving or leaving a business card,

These are things that are a waste of time, money and effort.

        I don't send post cards,
I don't EVER leave or send proposals at some ones request.

and I DEFINITELY NEVER leave or give prospects my business card!

These are just excuses for something else.

The best people for you to send your postcards to are the people who have purchased something similar before.

That is why experienced direct marketers haunt SRDS for sources of leads. SRDS is a database of mailing lists where you might be able to find a list of buyers of something similar to what you're selling, at a similar price point.

It's a poor second to send postcards to people who match the demographics of your buyers (income, age, gender, geography, etc.), since some of those are interested in buying and some not.

I've consulted on quite a few postcard projects and for each one, there's a different answer about the best way to buy (or rent) mailing lists. Sometimes geography is the most important variable, as with a new restaurant or service business in a particular neighborhood. Sometimes the business owner already has a list of customers or prospects, even though it's somewhat old. Sometimes it's best to zero in on companies according to their industry, number of years in business and number of employees. Sometimes going for magazine subscribers is the best route.

And of course the list is only one of three essential ingredients in success, as was said:

You have to put the time into:

        1) finding qualified and targeted leads

        2) matching them with a compelling offer

        3) have GREAT sales copy and a great product to offer them

    Postcard leads?

Well, one source I use that's free is Nextmark.Com

I don't know if you're looking to mail out to people in the HomeBiz
    market, or what...

but, I would seriously NOT listen to those who clearly had a bad
experience with postcard marketing (i.e. didn't know what they
were doing and lost money in the process) because it DOES work.

It takes work and time to master and understand how it works,
but once you get it down to a science, it's just a matter of scale.

And by "scale", I mean making 1 or 2 phone calls per week with
your order and you can make double the money you made one
month by the next month. The challenging part is the testing, but
    it's worth it.

There are a lot of sources out there, the best bet would be to test a few of them, look for sources that provide names 30 days old or younger, also you want to find out if they sell duplicates or not, then test and see which one you get the best results from and run with it. Here are a couple sources: finlists.com, opportunitylists.com

    Hope that helps.
