How does a yelp review get ranked no.1 ?

Here's an example: google the phrase carpet cleaning alameda and the yelp review for Bonadona's Carpet Cleaning is numero uno (using chrome browser). Does anyone know how and why that beat out other's that actually have websites and GPlace listings?

I've got yelp reviews for my business and would love to know if there's a way to get them ranked like the example above.

Keep guessing, Leanne. I've got a less than one year old website ranked no.1 and outranking a yelp review.

its a combination of things. For one they have the keyword in the url and title: Bonadona's Carpet Cleaning - Alameda, CA

Most the sites on that page dont have the kw in the title or url.

Also yelp has alot of juice so it ranks well on google without any additional backlinking alot of the times.

Also that is a very easy phrase to rank for since it only has 13,000 competing sites. I could rank for that in less than 24 hours with just submitting a free press release and bookmarking it once.

I'll try bookmarking my yelp reviews and see if that moves it up is the serps. Guess no one knows why one yelp review is on the first page of the serps and other reviews are way back on page 7 or greater.

Google usually picks one "top" listing from each major directory. You need to beat that listing in Yelp to replace them in Google search. Get more "keyword optimized" reviews, bookmark them, ping them and "anchor" backlink to them (reviews and your listing in Yelp)

Also, look at their Yelp's URL - yelp. com/biz/bonadonas-carpet-cleaning-alameda

It's going to be impossible for my yelp listing to beat out the top yelp listing in my category. Only 2 of my customer's reviews are visible and yelp hides the other 5, so I gave up chasing yelp...I mean, what's the point if yelp is going to hide most of my reviews anyways.

There is a website in the example that has a GP listing, which I'm helping the owner to try to get the number one spot in the serps. Once he gets registered with the 40-50 local listing directories, those citations should boost him up there. And also get his on page seo optimized should be all it takes to get number 1....at least that's all I did with my crappy one page website and it got number 1.

They also have a lot of reviews. Get your listings in GP and Yelp optimized and get some darn reviews ;-) Surprisingly, in the GP listings only a few companies have reviews, and few at that. Usually carpet cleaners have lots of reviews. It's one place to start, but don't do it all overnight!

I believe its because Google does not find that any of the competing sites are relevant enough to take that spot, so its acting as a place holder.
