Google Places.. How long does it take to get listed

Quick Question

I submitted information for my business to be listed about 2-3 weeks ago and my company still isn't showing up? Is there anyway to speed up up this process and how long does it usually take to for a listing to show up?

    Hi

It depends on what you mean by "submitted" your info.

Generally if it's new then it could take 2 -3 weeks to turn up but with the changes that Google implemented in the past week that may not be the case.

Plus you may also need a website now and if you don't have one in the listing it may not carry too much weight.

Also, from here on in you will need to get your website backlinked so that it fits in with the new "merged" approach that Google is taking.

If you want to let us know the name we can check it out for you.

    regards

When i say submitted i guess i mean, I went to the google places home page and clicked the "List Your Business" button and began to fill out the requested information.

Also, regarding to your comment about having a website, if i didn't submit a website with the information, will that effect how long it takes to show up? Once it does show up, can i edit my account info to say that I do have a website?

      Hi artiz

As long as the entry indicated it was "active" all you can do is wait.

If it gave you the red flag then you would need to fix whatever they needed fixed.

You can add the website now if you wish that might help but given it's only a couple of weeks you may just need to be patient.

      Regards

      Bronwyn and Keith
PS. We checked and it doesn't appear yet.

I'm finding the length of time a Google Places listings "shows up" or ranks is dependent on the genre and the competition

some "low hanging fruit" (easy to rank due to almost no competition) genres are incredibly easy.

other genres with stiff competition could take several weeks to begin to rank

Ft. Lauderdale, I know it well, spent 32 years there!
But getting to your question on verification:
        1. Go to YouTube.
        2. Type ... Google Places ... into the search box.
        3. In YouTube search results you'll see a video BY "Google Places" titled "Google Places How-To Webinar" ... click it, it will take you through the entire process of adding your business to Google Places. And since it's ON Google Places and BY a Google Places , you'll get good info on setting up your google places listing.
        4. It's a 41 minute 49 second video BUT you can scroll through the timeline to 14:50 and you'll see a section called "Basic Information Complete" and it's at this point Brianna shows you how to "claim your listing" or "create a new listing". But be sure to delete your old one if you're going to create a new one!
        5. Scroll ahead even farther to 22:20 and you see exactly how the verification process works. There are 2 ways to verify you listing. Verify by phone or verify by mail. You'll want to choose the "verify by phone" option but make certain you have someone standing by your business phone (the one listed as your main phone in your business listing) to answer the automated phone call that will come from google with your PIN number! The PIN number is what you'll type into your places page to verify your listing (while you're online in the listing page) so that it starts showing up online like it's suppose to.
        6. Once you've seen those two parts of the vid (14:50 + a couple mins thereafter, and 22:20+ a couple minutes thereafter) ... if you're not absolutely sure what to do ... go back to the beginning of the vid and watch it from start to the 30 minute mark.

At that point you'll be a freakin' Google Places genius and you shouldn't have any problem getting your Places Page set up. Be sure when you "fill-in-the-blanks" that you add as much info as possible to your listing. AND be sure to put in as many photos (10) and as many videos (5) as google allows you to put in (because it adds to your "ranking power")!

Step 7: Since you're a lauderdale dude, any problem ... let me know and I'll see if I can help out.

        Cheers!

And specifically, with the recent Google Places updates, it is taking 2-6 weeks for new listings to appear.

I agree Warrior Realm - we are seeing listings appear in 3-4 weeks.
