Need help from Maps, Citations, Reviews expert!!

I have a few questions. I got google maps domination (wso) and had that down packed and it worked like a charm. Now with the changes to google, I need to figure out how to incorporate reviews and citations and ive never done this before and i want to do it the "right" way to ensure the best results.

1. Do I change the name of my google maps listing for my client to include their main keyword? for example..... John Brown DDS .. change it to .... John Brown DDS- Dentist Westerville Ohio ?

2. When I get their profiles setup on Sites like Yelp and Citysearch.com do I also use those keywords in the title of their listing on those sites also? If Im not mistaken I have heard that the "citation" must be the exact same on every site? So if i use the keyword in the maps listing , I must use it on all of the other sites right?

3. My client says he has about 10 to 15 people he can call that will go and give him reviews. Do i send them all to the most powerful site (Yelp) or do i spread them out over different sites? Please tell me where to send these people and is there anything in paticular i should have him ask them to say in the review? (keywords?)

4. SEO the review sites? I saw someone advise another warrior that you should get backlinks and ping the profile pages on yelp and citysearch etc? Please advise on this. Do you also social bookmark them? using sites like Digg, and Reddit?

5. Is it worth it for me to pay someone or a company to submit my client to 100 different sites. Or is it just as powerful to submit to the ones who have the most influence and get reviews on those , and do it myself?

6. Do I also want to make "complete" an "optimized" listings on sites like yelp and citysearch etc .... In the same way I did their maps listing? Does this influence their rankings on google?

If anyone who can answer these I would appreciate it, I have been looking for the info but haven't found it. If there was a WSO , I would buy it. But haven't seen one (Might be a good Idea for someone who has this process down packed

Thanks

    1) Yes, you can, but IMO, it's not a "game changer" to add this. Relevancy is going to be based more-so on more appropriate quality signals then "title".

    2) They need to be exact. I use a service www.ubl.org to make sure all listings are the same. There are a handful of IYP's that you want to hand-submit to as they get a lot of traffic and you want to get on the process as soon as possible so Google picks up the changes.

    3) This is very important: Check out competitor reviews in the specific market sector. Google gives weight on reviews to different directories so you need to do a little homework first. Once you've found 2-3 websites Google is picking up the review feed, then have him post the reviews there. There will be a waiting period before Google picks up that feed, so make sure he posts 4-5 reviews on his actual Google Places profile.

    4) The point of getting the sites indexed, review sites or citation sites, is so Google caches and indexes the pages, which in-turn, updates the Google Places profile. It's a good idea, but if they pages have already been cached once before, then Google will come by and cache it again - your call, just depends on how much time you have to setup.

    5) Use www.ubl.org . It's cheap and effective.

    6) Having complete listings help in a variety of ways. First, you don't always know what Google is going to pick up and put within Google Places profile. They pick up a lot of data from Angie's List and display on there listings. Point is, you should always fill out as Google could start adding more info from the directories of their choice, you just never know. Secondly, this directories DO GET TRAFFIC so having a complete listing is important to the traffic that is visiting their website. A lot of times, if your listing is completely updated, you get a "boost" in that directories internal rankings, which equates to more traffic to you or your client. So not only is it good for Google Places, it's just good for usability and profile completeness against competitors.

hey , thanks alot , i appreciate you taking the time to answer. When you say it takes some time for google to pick them up. How long is the average time frame? One more question. Is angies list a free site? And does my client have to do anything , confirm anything (like the google maps phone call), or should I be able to do all of this myself?

Last question, haha.... I have one client who has had some problems finding people to go and post the reviews for him. (mattress store) .... I have about 5 local friends i could call and they would post reviews for me if i ask. Is this ok? Can i use them to post reviews for all my clients?? As long as they are from different IP addresses , i shouldnt worry about being penalized or google picking up on it right?

Sure, its ok as long as you don't mind being a scumbag. You obviously are not asking that question from an ethical standpoint as you know its wrong but are only interested in whether or not you can get away with it.

You're the kind of person marketers with ethics have to compete against and give the whole industry a bad reputation and they should ban you from this sight for even asking the question.

At best, you just ruined your reputation with anyone that reads your post.

Don't take unneeded risk like posting fake reviews. It is a serious fine from the FTC if found posting fake reviews. Does the store owner not keep any type of records who buys from him ? If so have him do a few follow up calls from recent and/or repeat customers. If there is no data base , ( get him to start keeping one ) then have him offer a free gift to customers that post a review within 1 month of purchase.

On a side note , you can easily have review management as one of the solutions you offer businesses. If done right can create a decent amount of residual income. Take care.

fake reviews will get you in trouble
      it's not worth the aggravation

3/4 of all my work comes from people who've cheated and gotten flagged/ or their Google Places account canceled

I even had my own Google Places account canceled, I got it back but only by the skin of my teeth

IMNSHO: the rampant review cheating is why Google wanted to buy Yelp, Yelp has an excellent system to determine if a review is "real or not"

    • re #1: Do not add ANY KW to the listing title/biz name, especially geo keywords, for a couple reasons.

1st of all, it's against the guidelines and you can easily get your clients listing rejected and it can take months to get it back online.

Additionally, you are talking about GETTING citations. Chances are if it's an established business like a Dentist he already HAS citations. If you change his name by adding keywords, then he'll lose his existing citations so his ranking with DROP instead of going up. It can take 6 months to get citations to hit using UBL or other services.

re: #3: I wouldn't get reviews on Yelp. Google sometimes stops showing Yelp reviews due to their rocky relationship. So if all your reviews are their and G stops showing Yelp your client's ranking tanks. I'd say start with a few on Google, but G has been losing so many reviews lately. City Search and Insider Pages may be good.

Importantly too, with the new localMerge algo it's not as easy to get people ranked. It takes more than optimizing their Place page, getting citations and reviews. It's MUCH more about their organic ranking now. So you may need to also work on his site and SEO.

thanks alot to everybody. Your right, this new merge has me a little rattled, because it was so easy before to make a better optimized map listing and see results instantly. Now im trying to get my game plan together going forward, and i havent done any citations or review stuff. And it also sucks since it seems these things take so much time to register in google. but your right , im going to also go hard on the actual website seo.
